IN 1956, THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT BURNED 6 TONS OF A SCIENTIST'S BOOKS. NOT IN NAZI GERMANY. IN AMERICA.

Dr. Wilhelm Reich was an Austrian-born physician, a former student of Sigmund Freud, and one of the most controversial scientists of the 20th century. He discovered what he called orgone energy — a measurable life force that exists in the atmosphere, in living tissue, and in water. He built devices called orgone accumulators that concentrated this energy and directed it into the human body.

His patients reported accelerated wound healing, reduction of tumors, relief from chronic pain, and reversal of conditions that conventional medicine had declared untreatable.

In 1954, the FDA filed an injunction against him. Not because his devices were dangerous. Because he refused to appear in court to "prove" that orgone energy existed. Reich argued that a court of law was not qualified to judge scientific discoveries. He refused to submit his research to a legal system he believed was controlled by the pharmaceutical industry.

The court ruled against him in absentia. The FDA was given authority to destroy everything.

Federal agents entered his laboratory in Rangeley, Maine. They dismantled every orgone accumulator. They seized every document, every notebook, every piece of research. Then they loaded six tons of his published books, journals, and scientific papers into an incinerator in New York City and burned them.

This was not 1933 Berlin. This was 1956 New York.

Reich was sentenced to two years in federal prison. He died in his cell at Lewisburg Penitentiary on November 3, 1957. The official cause of death was heart failure. He was 60 years old.

His final manuscript was sealed by the court with orders that it not be opened until 2007. Fifty years of silence. When it was finally opened, the contents were never widely published.

They did not just silence him. They burned his words. They caged him. They killed him. And then they made sure you never heard his name.

The suit charged the firm with fraud, racketeering, and operating like a Ponzi scheme. Investors and contractors filed separate lawsuits over unpaid work and false promises made to secure their money. The company wasted time on tiny 3D-printed models, rented hangars that filled up with garbage and triggered eviction threats, and lost state grants after getting caught lying about project deadlines. In one final burst of absurdity during Black Friday 2024, they tried selling missiles, artillery, rockets, and munitions directly to the public while still pushing fantasies about hover cars.
