It would be good for Christians to be reminded of the Sermon on the Mount. Turning the other cheek would end a lot of these continuous cycles of conflict. Most of these conflicts don't really matter that much at the end of the day anyway.

It is most certainly a duty to defend a good name when attacked. It is, however, also a 9CV to aggravate smaller faults. I think both sides in this kerfuffle have cared too much about slights made toward them. Moscow keeps poking and Ogden keeps responding. It's all so tiresome.

Some people have asked why we in Ogden, from time to time, offer a defense when attacked. Like many of you, we understand the conflict fatigue. Our general preference would be to focus on positive aspects of our work.

However, it is important to remember the Westminster Confession and Larger Catechism. Though we do not grab every passing dog by the tail, we have a duty to defend our good name.

In dealing with divisions in my own church, this "aggravation of smaller faults" has been a massive issue. Severity of sins gets skewed, egos need defending, every perceived injustice must be resolved, and everyone else must join in to 'pick a side'.
