Landed! 🇪🇺✈️
The new agreement on air passenger rights has just been voted by an overwhelming majority in @Europarl_EN.
This brings greater certainty to the aviation sector, stronger passenger rights, and easier travel across Europe.
Proud of the work done by all MEPs, especially Rapporteur @AndreyNovakov and @EP_Transport Vice-Chair @VSinkevicius, whose determination and commitment made this result possible.
We did it! 🇪🇺✈️
After 13 long years of negotiations, we have reached a successful landing zone.
I am proud that @Europarl_EN has secured a deal that will significantly strengthen air passenger rights while delivering a balanced solution for the industry.
Today’s result would not have been possible without the incredible work of Parliament’s negotiating team, led by Rapporteur @AndreyNovakov and @EP_Transport Vice-Chair @VSinkevicius.
The agreement reached means:
• easier compensation claims
• stronger rights for families and passengers with disabilities
• more transparency on hand luggage charges
• compensation after 3-hour delays
This is a major step forward: making air travel fairer and more transparent, giving airlines greater clarity and predictability, and keeping the sector competitive.
Many thanks to @CY2026EU, Minister @AlexisVafeades, @EUCouncil and Commissioner @tzitzikostas for helping push this through.
A larger Europe is a stronger and safer Europe.
As @Europarl_EN has long called for, Member States have given the green light to start EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.
The opening of the first chapters on democracy, justice and the rule of law underlines both countries' reform efforts and their commitment to European values. All while pushing back against Russia's aggression, threats and intimidation.
Enlargement is our strongest geopolitical tool, and Ukraine and Moldova belong in Europe 🇪🇺🇺🇦🇲🇩
On behalf of @Europarl_EN, I want to express our complete solidarity with the people of Romania and with all those affected by the Russian drone that smashed into an apartment building in Galați this morning.
Europe stands united in the face of Russia's escalation.
Russia’s intimidation and provocations against Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania are unacceptable and heighten tensions in the region.
We stand firmly with the Baltic States. No Member State should be threatened by Russia.
The security of the Baltics is the security of Europe.
The EU must remain united, vigilant and resolute against Russian attempts to destabilise its neighbourhood and undermine European security.
Statement by @Europarl_EN Conference of Presidents: https://t.co/b2T7cN6s97
Europe stands united against threats on its borders.
Our full solidarity goes to all people in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and our Eastern flank, facing danger from hostile drone activity linked to Russia and Belarus.
In moments like these, Europe must continue to invest in security for stability, freedom, and peace.
Every time someone shows up, every time someone stands up, our Europe is made stronger.
These are the first laureates of the European Order of Merit.

In an increasingly unpredictable world, working closely with our friends and allies across the globe is more important than ever.
That’s why we’re in Yerevan today.
To build the political will to tackle our shared challenges, together.
Excellent meeting with the Prime Minister of Canada @MarkJCarney in the margins of the EPC in Yerevan.
As close allies and like-minded partners that share common values and so much more, we had a very good discussion on European and Canadian priorities including defence, trade and Artificial Intelligence.
We will keep building on this momentum in the months ahead 🇪🇺🇨🇦
Honoured to announce the first appointments to the European Order of Merit.
These Europeans embody the remarkable diversity of excellence and commitment that drives Europe forward and strengthens its standing across the world.
Their extraordinary achievements remind us that people from every walk of life can build Europe on a daily basis, shape our Union, and uphold our shared values.
The ceremony of conferral will take place at @Europarl_EN in Strasbourg in May.
The end of the Ayatollah must signal the end of the age of dictators in Iran. After 47 years, it must be time for freedom.
For all those murdered, executed and forcibly disappeared;
For all those children made to grow up in fear of the regime's shackles;
For all those mothers forced to comb through bloody basements piled high with the bodies of innocents as they searched for loved ones;
For the generations of Iranians who had to flee their homes and live in exile;
For every political prisoner tortured, executed or unjustly imprisoned;
For women, life, liberty. For Jina Mahsa Amini. For every voice forever silenced;
For every son summarily hanged from a crane in a public square;
For every innocent European held hostage in horrific conditions by the terrorists in the IRGC;
For all the victims of the proxies of terror that the regime trained, financed, supplied and supported as they murdered thousands across the Middle East and the world over the last two generations;
For all those for whom the struggle for freedom is not political or a cause célèbre but existential;
For all those who want the people of Iran to bask in light rather than remain shrouded in darkness;
Now, Iran must be free.
The European Parliament has long called for the regime in Iran to dismantle its State instruments of oppression, end its support for proxies of terror, abandon its nuclear ambitions and finally allow its people to be free to choose their own destiny.
The events unfolding in Iran must not lead to a spiral of escalation that could threaten the Middle East, Europe and beyond. The Iranian regime's attacks this morning on GCC countries are inexcusable and unjustifiable.
The regime in Iran must refrain from any further escalation in any targeting of the Gulf States, Israel or European or United States nationals.
We are in close contact with partners in the region to try to find ways forward that protects innocent lives, international law and regional stability.
We stand firm with Ukraine.
For a just and lasting peace.
For a strong and sovereign Ukraine in a strong and sovereign Europe.
The future of a secure and prosperous Ukraine lies in the EU.

Tomorrow President @ZelenskyyUa will address the world from Ukraine during the extraordinary @Europarl_EN Plenary Session marking four years since the start of the invasion.
We stand with the brave people of Ukraine and together, we will keep pushing for a just peace and sustained security for Ukraine.
As I told President @ZelenskyyUa in our discussion at @MunSecConf this afternoon, in the next days, on behalf of @Europarl_EN, I will sign into law the €90 billion solidarity loan to Ukraine.
Europe stands with the people of Ukraine with concrete action.
#MSC2026
When four years ago Europe said we will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes, we meant it.
As we keep pushing for peace, we will do so side-by-side with Ukraine.

The world is witnessing a wave of change in Iran. People on the streets will change the course of history.
Now is the time to double down on our support for liberty for the people of Iran.
For their fight for freedom, and for an end to the repression and bloodshed.
Just as @Europarl_EN led the push for sanctions and the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organisation we will keep up the pressure.
Iran will be free.
At @MunSecConf tonight, in conversation with US Senator @LindseyGrahamSC, @ksadjadpour, and @CNN's Christiane @amanpour.
A strong, clear, and unwavering message from @Europarl_EN to the people of Iran: we stand with you.
Today, MEPs voted by an overwhelming majority to demand an immediate end to the Iranian regime’s brutal violence and the release of all political prisoners.
Sanctions on members of the terrorist IRGC must be fully enforced. No loopholes, no excuses.
Iran will be free.
