On behalf of @Europarl_EN, with Presidents @Christodulides and @vonderleyen, renewing our commitment to keeping culture at the core of our European project.
By supporting creativity, artistic freedom, and cultural diversity, we are investing in one of Europe’s greatest strengths.
“Culture for Europe. Europe for Culture".
The Declaration establishes 12 core principles for EU cultural policy, framing culture as both a fundamental right and a strategic asset critical for social cohesion, democratic resilience, and global presence. By recognizing its intrinsic social and economic value, the Declaration positions culture as a vital public good necessary for navigating modern challenges like geopolitical tensions, climate change, and technological disruption.

Two questions dominated today's discussion with EU Culture Ministers:
🎨 How do we ensure cultural rights in the age of AI?
🏛️ How do we better protect Europe's cultural heritage from trafficking and organised crime?
For creators, the next steps are clear:
• Review of the relevance of existing rules
• Call for Evidence of the Copyright Directive Review open until 25 June
• Preparation of an AI Strategy for the cultural and creative sectors
For heritage professionals:
• Continued implementation of measures to strengthen traceability and combat illicit trafficking
The objective is to ensure that Europe's creativity, culture and heritage remain protected and valued in a rapidly changing world.
Now comes the most important part: turning the #CultureCompass vision into real support and real opportunities for Europe's cultural and creative sectors.
