OPERATION SCREWWORM: From the @TSCRA's January 1955 issue of The Cattleman, a look at early sterile fly experiments to eliminate NWS.
"This pilot research may break the way for the much bigger job of driving the screwworm out of the southeastern United States."
Today, I’m at the Texas Capitol participating in a hearing of the House Public Education Committee as we examine key interim charges that will help shape education policy for the next legislative session.
Two of the biggest challenges facing Texas schools are teacher recruitment and retention, and ensuring students with special needs receive the support and opportunities they deserve. As student needs continue to grow, it’s critical that we have a strong educator workforce and effective special education programs that equip every child for success.
I appreciate hearing from educators, parents, and stakeholders as we evaluate the impact of recent legislation, identify areas for improvement, and continue working toward solutions that strengthen public education for students across Texas.
California may still lead the country in Fortune 500 headquarters, but Texas is closing fast.
More companies are moving operations, executives, and investment capital to Texas because the state keeps building an economy designed for growth, not gridlock.
The question is no longer whether Texas is competing nationally.
The question is, who will move here next?

Police called to Austin Swatch store at 5:45am where line was around the block for 9am opening. Told crowd of hundreds waiting for a Swatch + AP Royal Pop Collab to leave immediately or be arrested.
Some notes, @Swatch. I visited the Austin store yesterday to confirm they were offering the AP + Swatch Collab. Was told by security that lines would be allowed to form starting at 6am the next day for 9am opening. Great.
Arrive at 5:40 this am. People had been waiting in line for hrs. Many prolly didn’t know about 6am rule. I only knew bc I asked the day before. And the rule was clearly not enforced. Should have been staffed with crowd control and guards sending folks away until 6am. Should have been actually organized at line formation. Especially because something similar happened with Omega collab.
Then just before 6am when official line-up is supposed to begin…police are called to disperse the already lined-up crowd & send everyone home for trespassing.
I truly didn’t witness any unruly behavior. Eager customers, of course. Maybe there was but I didn’t see it.
Now store is closed for the day with a sign posted out front. People are still waiting out front - probably all day and through tomorrow am for the next time you open your doors - assuming of course they don’t have the police called on them again.
Was that all just part of a wider marketing scheme, @Swatch?
How’s a rule-following person to purchase one?
Great visit with the Board of Directors at Golden Spread Electric Cooperative in Amarillo.
Golden Spread serves as the generation and transmission cooperative for 16 member distribution cooperatives across West Texas and eastern New Mexico, covering 24% of the state of Texas. These 32 board members represent rural communities that depend on reliable, affordable power.
We covered a lot of ground: wins from the 89th Legislative Session and how they benefit West Texas, a preview of what is coming in the 90th, data centers and the construction and interconnection challenges that come with them, and property taxes and appraisal reform.
Thanks for the invitation. I enjoyed spending time with you today.

Texas is competing, and winning.
Companies have been moving to Texas for years because they see what this state offers: lower costs, room to grow, a fair judiciary, and a regulatory environment built for business.
Now, as Texas moves faster, New York is left complaining rather than competing.
