Many high school athletes have very inefficient practices because they don't learn or apply the principles of deliberate practice. Instead of just shooting around, do specific drills that challenge your current capabilities, with feedback from a coach. Train with a purpose.
The average, “normal” American has habits and a lifestyle incompatible with athletic success (diet, sleeping habits, partying, social media/TV use, etc.) If you want to have athletic success, you have to accept not being normal (in some ways, at least).
4 things you must do if you want an exceptional culture:
1️⃣ You must live it.
2️⃣ You must communicate it.
3️⃣ You must teach it.
4️⃣ You must fight for it.
Coaches: when you are putting together drills are they really Game Like Actions? When you put it together you should envision seeing it in your game tape. Actions captivate players attentions.
You want to be so skilled/talented and so good at executing your game plan, that your opponent won't be able to stop you even if they know what's coming. If you can add unpredictability on top of that, that's even better.
The art of coaching is getting kids to do things they don’t really want to do as effectively as possible. This requires the use of many kinds of motivational/teaching tactics. You always need to be thinking of which ones to use at the right time.
Mindfulness is the practice of calmly focusing entirely on the present moment. Whether it is when you’re hiking, washing dishes, or playing sports, mindfulness can help clear your mind, give you joy, and improve your mental health.
Become a learning machine. Your progress will accelerate to the degree you get better at learning. Learn from failure. Learn from success. Learn from observing good examples. Learn from observing bad examples. Lessons are everywhere, you just have to notice and apply them.
Reacting to adversity with sadness can lower motivation. Reacting with anger gives you energy but it can be disruptive. Reacting with composure and resilience is best.

Coaches, just like players, need to make improvements throughout the year. Improvements can be made to their work ethic, leadership, communication, teaching skills, and their knowledge of the game.
