On our way to champs-élysées avenue in Paris, we boarded a Metro. French station names weren't always easy for us to understand, but we believed we boarded the train heading in the right direction.

The mindset was simple: Let's get in first. If it's the wrong train, we'll alight at the next station. It's morning, and we weren't in a haste. We had time and ticket. A wrong train would even be an opportunity to get to know the city better. After all, Igbo adage said, "Missing a road is knowing the road."

Thankfully, it turned out to be the right train.

The next day was completely different.

After an amazing day at Disneyland, we started our journey back around 11:57 p.m. (after Disney Tales by Magic closing show). It's late in the night. We were tired and exhausted. Here, the stakes had changed. Taking the wrong train at that hour could mean a much longer journey, unnecessary stress, missed bus connections, and getting home far later than planned. Here, every minute mattered.

This time, we didn't guess.

We slowed down.

We carefully read every sign, confirmed the platform, even asked the bus driver, checked the destination, and only boarded when we were sure.

Yes, when you're younger, your greatest advantage is time. You can afford to experiment, make mistakes, change direction, and start over. Failure is often just tuition for future success.

As you grow older, responsibilities increase. Your decisions affect your family, career, finances, health, and future. The cost of avoidable mistakes becomes much higher.

That doesn't mean you should stop taking risks. It means you should replace reckless guessing with informed decisions.

There is a season for exploration, and there is a season for precision.

Wisdom is knowing the difference.

If you're still in your early years, don't let fear stop you from trying. Learn fast, fail forward, and keep moving.

If you're further along in life, don't rely on chance. Read the signs. Gather the facts. Seek counsel. Then, move with confidence.

The destination matters—but choosing the right train matters too.

Life rewards both courage and wisdom: the courage to start and the wisdom to know when every decision counts.
