Mesa travelled down to Texas A&M Kingsville on Thursday night and left with a big 16-13 win over the Lone Star Conference foe to start the season 1-0!!

Mesa led 8-7 at the end of the 1st quarter thanks to Leslie Richardson’s 7 yard TD run, which was followed by Evan Morris punching it in for the 2 pt conversion.

However, after Kingsville made a field goal in both the 2nd & 3rd quarters, Mesa found itself down 13-8 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter, the redshirt sophomore transfer QB from San Diego State, Liu Aumavae, put his talents on display.

Liu led Mesa on a 7 play 75 yard drive that was capped off with a 30 yard TD pass to freshman Jack Burke. Aiden Taylor then ran the ball in for the 2 point conversion, giving Mesa a 16-13 lead with just under 5 minutes remaining.

The defense played great the entire game, limiting Kingsville to just 129 yards rushing and only 104 yards passing. After the go ahead TD, the defense did its job, causing a turnover on downs to all but seal the victory.

🏈 Liban Shongolo, 10 Tackles (5 Solo, 5 Assisted); &
🏈 Jason Thome, 6 Solo Tackles & 1 INT.
