I'm a full stack developer with over a decade of experience in Silicon Valley. I also make music and art sometimes, and I run. At me with JavaScript questions.
I'm not blocking Trump, I'm just done. Elon can advertise to the right wing base he panders to. They can make another echo chamber. I don't care any more. Add me on Facebook, IG, and yes, even LinkedIn. Uninstalling in 3, 2, 1...
@BrynnTannehill The thing is, if a site like Twitter goes down for even an hour, there will be a lot of angry people who are finding other social media sites on which to rant.
I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?"
As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.
@BrynnTannehill I've worked at multiple social media companies in Silicon Valley as a programmer, but I worked in many technical roles. So I am qualified to confirm that that take is indeed dogshit.
All systems this large require constant maintenance.
So my friends are gone, the vision is murky, there is a storm coming and a no financial upside. What would you do? Would you sacrifice time with your kids over the holidays for vague assurances and the opportunity to make a rich person richer or would you take the out?
was feeling a bit worried w how many ppl are saying twitterโs collapse is imminent that I havenโt downloaded my archive yet then I realized wait the ephemeral nature of my past tweets is GOOD actually like 95% of my tweets are cringe lol
This is why you can't just let everyone go. Tomorrow, or next week, some hacker is going to find a vulnerability in the software used by Twitter HR, then exploit that to inject something awful into everyone's timelines, and the only guys who could fix that were just laid off.
Websites and web services don't just magically stay up. They require constant maintenance to protect them from bad actors and ensure they are compatible with whatever the web is tomorrow. They also need constant monitoring to find and replace subsystems that go bad. #RIPTwitter
@AuforGA People have no idea how complex modern websites are. To deliver websites as fast as they come takes the coordinated effort of billions of people (from supply chain to programmers), who are taking advantage of every bit of engineering knowledge that the human race has accumulated.
I'm @evanxmerz on Instagram as well, if we lose contact here. I've posted maybe twice on Instagram, but it looks like that's where I'm headed if Twitter implodes.
@tonyposnanski 1. Toast English muffin
2. Add miracle whip
3. Add avocado
One of my favorite breakfasts. Especially this time of year in California, where we are drowning in avocados.
If anyone lasts more than two years in Silicon Valley then they are hardened. They are smart, resilient, and tough. My point is that they will gladly call your bluff.

It's dangerous to mess with software developers in Silicon Valley. If they're like me, then they've paid their dues. They spent years working hard in college and then pursuing graduate degrees. Then they spent years working long days in abusive conditions at startups.
