Thank you Dhirubhai and Mukesh Ambani. Thank you to IOCL, HPCL and BPCL etc. Thank you to all engineers who worked on some of the most complex refineries in the world. While the world faces terrible diesel crack spreads, we earn valuable foreign exchange thanks to our refineries.
Chandrasekhar was born 116 years ago today 🎉
At 19, on the boat from India to Cambridge in 1930, he worked out that a white dwarf above ~1.4 solar masses could not remain stable. Eddington publicly rejected the result. 53 years later, Chandrasekhar won the Nobel Prize for his work on stellar evolution.
This guy from Odisha, India, who loved learning Sanskrit, has now created an engineering AI model better than OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra and every frontier model out there.
While the news is to be celebrated and his company congratulated, as Indians we need to feel disappointed that such extraordinary Indian innovators still have to come to the west to innovate.
The ecosystem (universities, accelerators, and funding) and the environment (livable towns, good infra) for such innovation and innovators, while has certainly developed, still needs to improve.
While I'm sure it will in the coming decade, for now, as I have long been calling for, India needs to build a GIFT city kind of dedicated town for tech and innovation in a place with good weather throughout the year.
And also create good incentives for these Indian origin founded companies in the west to immediately open centers in India, sharing back some of the tech they created.
Introducing SKY-001, the first Engineering World Model.
On CAD and BIM tasks, it beats GPT-6 Astra and every frontier model we tested:
-> 51-125x faster
- > 150-210x cheaper
-> Higher IOU than all frontier models
SKY-001 lets you dream a physical object before you build it.
18 months of work. Built by the team out of Maluuba's deep learning lab (acq. by @MSRResearch).
The first ‘AI General Engineer’ will be the backbone for Autonomous Manufacturing.
Yesterday Elon Musk tweeted in a conciliatory tone to Reliance and Mukesh Ambani.
A high powered US team headed by US Secretary of State Rubio is coming to India today and will be there for a few days. The sole focus is visiting the Jamnagar refinery and meeting Mukesh Ambani and his team to procure refined products, especially diesel, for the US.
Even oil rich countries like America and Russia do not currently have sufficient refining capacity.
Due to recent geopolitical conflicts, a lot of refineries have been destroyed or have become dysfunctional.
As I mentioned in the last post, Reliance’s Jamnagar complex is the world’s largest single site refining facility and is among the most sophisticated in the world.
It can process a wide range of crude grades, including heavy and difficult to refine crudes.
So America now needs India’s help, to be precise Mukesh Ambani’s help.
Mukesh has already initiated the process of building a refinery in America too.
Decades ago, Dhirubhai Ambani built the world’s largest and most sophisticated refinery in Jamnagar.
He was way ahead of his time.
And that’s helping our country now.
String theory is what happens when an intelligent system is starved of sensory input and starts hallucinating. Intelligence needs grounding.
For this reason, intelligence is practically never the bottleneck to solving impactful problems. The bottleneck is iterated contact with reality.
