You summon goons, invite them to violence, pay them, facilitate them to block roads, burn cars, kill Policemen … And instead of being arrested & charged with Murder & Terrorism, you are busy in Press Conferences calling the same Police you killed to arrest the victims! And the Police like us are just watching helplessly! We live in unreal times.
As things stand, Ruto appears to be banking heavily on three regions ahead of the August 2027 election: Kalenjin Rift, North Eastern and Luo Nyanza. He knows that much of the rest of the country is heavily leaning towards WANTAM.
That is why the battle for Luo Nyanza is becoming so critical for him. Sifuna’s growing appeal in the region presents a real political challenge, and the regime wants to make it difficult for Linda Mwananchi to campaign there. The level of brutal force and violence we witnessed on Sunday cannot be separated from that political reality.
But if the reception we saw afterwards is anything to go by, that strategy may not work. From Homa Bay all the way to Kisumu, people lined up along matatu stages, waving at us and shouting WANTAM as our convoy passed.
Edwin Sifuna is an idea whose time has come. Not even use of violence will stop him.
Being knocked down is not defeat. Staying down is. 🥊
Disappointment, sickness, financial hardship, betrayal from someone you trusted — any one of those can put you flat on the ground. None of them are the end of your story on their own. Failure is an event. It happens to you, sometimes more than once, sometimes when you did nothing to deserve it. Defeat is different — it's a decision, and it only happens the moment you decide to stay down.
Persistence isn't the absence of getting knocked down. It's the willingness to give it one more try instead of reaching for the alibi that lets you off the hook. Get up. Even if it's slower this time. Even if it's harder than it was the last time. Get up and try again.
The near silence in the room when Prof. Hino and Prof Nyong’o spoke of corruption and wastage in government as the biggest impediments to Kenya’s progress confirms the chickens were preaching salvation to the hawks.
