This fish is called "Dango-uo" in Japanese (ダンゴウオ).

The scientific name is "Lethotremus awae". It lives in the cold waters of Japan and it's a cute fish.

It's been very helpful actually because it's so ingrained in my brain that you can't break a pinky promise. @DiaryofaSickGrl Occasionally, when people I know well are upset and in need of comfort, I hug them without asking, such as when certain friends are crying. But this is a rare circumstance and often I use nonverbal clues to ask, such as the universal "hug?" gesture.

@DiaryofaSickGrl Absolutely. The only people with an exception are people you are in an established relationship/friendship with and it is your habit to hug as a greeting or farewell. And if you wish to hug them another time outside of established parameters, still ask.
