It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.

The Man Who Went Bust Running a Casino Is Now Running the House

On Friday, Donald Trump told the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates or he would simply stop trading with every country America runs a deficit with, which is most of the planet. That is not trade policy, that is a man threatening to hold his breath until the economy turns blue. So I decided to go back and read up on the one business where the odds are literally rigged in the owner's favour, and I ended up sitting there muttering that this was completely mad.

In 1990 he opened the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, called it the eighth wonder of the world, and paid for it with 675 million dollars of junk bonds at 14 percent interest. It was bankrupt within a year. He had built it a mile from his own Trump Plaza and Trump Castle, so the new casino ate the old ones, whose takings dropped by 58 million dollars, and both followed him into Chapter 11 in 1992. The parent company went bust in 2004, again in 2009 and again in 2014, six casino bankruptcies in all. New Jersey regulators had warned back in 1990 that a complete collapse of the Trump Organization was not out of the question. His response, eventually, was to sue the surviving casinos for still carrying his name.

Then I went further back. His Wharton marketing professor, William T. Kelley, told a close friend repeatedly over thirty years that Trump was the dumbest student he ever had, a man who arrived convinced he already knew everything. Classmates remembered someone who could not be bothered to prepare.

There is a word for what happens when people like this end up in charge, and it is being used more and more openly now. The word is kakistocracy, from the Greek kakistos, meaning the worst, and it describes a state governed by its least qualified and least scrupulous citizens. It is not a system anyone designs. It is what you get when loyalty outranks competence, when the man at the top rewards flattery and punishes expertise, and when the people who actually know how a central bank or a supply chain works are shown the door. Look at the cabinet, look at who was fired for telling the truth, and then tell me the word is unfair.

And there is the red thread. Borrow at ruinous rates, build something that undermines what you already own, blame everyone else and announce that the future looks very good. In Atlantic City the bondholders paid. Now the trade deficit has jumped 24 percent in a month and his answer is an embargo on America's own customers. He is not running a country. He is running the Taj Mahal, and this time we are the bondholders.
