I’m a mom in my early 40s. Combined we make $185k—society calls that “upper middle class.”

Yet we rent.

Two financed cars @ high interest.

$1,500/mo insurance.

$1,000/mo college daughter’s housing + her groceries/gas/living expenses.

At my house we have car payments, utilities, car insurance, cost of raising kids, $1,000 car tags every year… in a list goes on.

After keeping a roof over everyone’s head and food in my college kid’s fridge, I look at my husband and ask: “Wait, what about OUR groceries?”
Sometimes fast food is cheaper than cooking. Sometimes my elderly mom has had to help with our groceries. Only for me to turn around and pay her back when my next check came in which left me short on something in that paycheck.

We have ZERO credit card debt. The only credit we carry is from past years when we tried to survive on credit and couldn’t even make minimum payments hence ruined our credit, which is completely our fault but Covid hit us hard and my husband had a hard time making a decent wage that was nowhere near what he had before. He even worked at Amazon for making $14 an hour working long hours until he could get back into the telecommunication field that he worked in leading up to Covid.

We live in a safe, middle-class town with good schools (that my youngest no longer attends because some of the crazy stuff that goes on in public schools today). We’re not living above our means—we’re just trying to keep our family afloat.

Modern feminism sold us “having it all.”

Reality: two full-time jobs, antidepressants, zero family time, zero time with my husband, kids feel alone, pure exhaustion, strangers raising my kids, and still choosing between groceries and car tags.

Who actually benefited from women entering the workforce en masse?

Government (double taxes)
Corporations (cheaper labor)
Banks, real estate, daycare, insurance…

Who suffered?
Families? Kids? Marriages? Women’s mental health?
We lost.

I’m not anti-woman. I’m anti-anything that destroys families.

I’d trade every “promotion” for one paid-off house, one car, and the chance to raise my own daughters.

“Having it all” turned into having nothing left and a lifetime worth of regrets.
