The reason is unnecessary arrogance at the wrong time. Taxpayers were already frustrated with how the budget treated them, and then comes Mr. Gadkari with statements like, "Itna tax laga denge ki diesel gaadi bechna mushkil ho jayega." The road damage from the monsoon, coupled with high toll rates, didn’t help him either.

Taxpayer janta trast baithi hai. Unless you can help them, it's best to keep mum and not provoke them.

Ok Tell me what are we getting in return of paying 15-30% income Tax.
18% GST on every business Billing.
Taxes on each and everything from a small Food packet to Car.
Purchasing Vehicles for more than 130% of their actual values.
+Toll Tax +Road Tax
House taxes.
and what not..
Still no medical insurance for tax payers
No Free Education for our kids
No Privilege for our family.
Why should we pay tax ?
Give me One reason why one should not fly out of the country after earning good ?

The govt levies a 4% education and health cess on top of your income tax, which in return brings no benefits to your own health because all this money is used for the healthcare needs of shoshit, vanchit and peedits.

And when you go to buy health insurance to cover yourself for medical emergencies that can financially ruin you, you are charged 18% GST on it. 18% GST on health insurance! What's the logic for that? It should be tax-free. The state can't ensure affordable quality healthcare for taxpayers despite paying all the dues, but it extracts 18% GST if they do something about it themselves.
