@ActualNosferatu Interesting. I assume you mean for SARS-CoV-2. H5N1 is also an ongoing concern, and I seem to recall reading a fair bit about ocular transmission with that one. And even for C19, what about droplets getting sneezed into the eyes of caregivers? I assume that could be infectious?

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

@YYCCowboy I bet your kiddo is VERY happy to have you back!

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

@DSEDunn Oh wow- good for you! When we were house-shopping years ago, I wanted a place with stairs, hoping it would help me stay in shape as I age. Don't know that it's really working, but hey, at least it gives me something to fall down fairly often.

@tommyjtookalook This practice of limiting shots boggles the mind. AB is doing this too- limiting pharmacies on how many doses they can order per week. Makes no sense. YAY for you for getting an appointment!!!!

🇨🇦Two things can inhumane at the same time. Two tier healthcare is inhumane. Hospital Acquired Infections in public or private healthcare settings are also inhumane. LET’S DO BETTER!!!!!

[Lady Chuan @LadyChuan]

My cousin who I haven’t spoken to since around 2021/2022 after she became irate after I shared Covid information with her grandmother, posted that she lost her Mom, son, and uncle in 2020.

She lost her step-sister, fiancé and who would have been in MIL in 2021.

She lost her best friend, brother, and two of her friends from high school in 2022. (She is in her mid 40s).

She lost her aunt, 2 cousins, a friend from work, and her manager in 2023.

She lost two dogs that originally belong to one of her cousins that passed on her father’s side after only having them for a few weeks in 2024.

The same year, her daughter who is now 11 years old, lost her best friend and her best friend’s Mom died. She also lost both of her remaining aunts.

In 2025, her department combined with another department at work because what used to be 8 people was now down to 2.

Three people died. Two went out on medical leave and didn’t return, and one went out on disability in December 2024.

She stated that most of her weekends in 2026 has been driving her grandmother to funerals..and that her grandmother has outlived all 6 of her children….5 daughters including her mother, (one daughter died in Nov/Dec 2019 from “pneumonia”), and a son.

THEN SHE SAID….. “I can’t even imagine Covid being as bad as the SUPER COLDS that they couldn’t shake. Knock on wood, none of us got Covid.”

….and for me…this is why distance is good to maintain sanity,

@LadyChuan @2Serenity Wow. Just wow. 💔💔💔

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

@urbanmel So true.

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

@biggermap No clear winner yet this winter! 😂

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

Winter has arrived. My new normal has become: get winter tires, get vaccinated if they’ll let me, and hibernate.

"ICU-acquired infection was the primary driver of increased ICU LOS and hospital costs."

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

@biggermap Unspoken competition between guys on my street to see who can get out and shovel neighbours' sidewalks before the other guys get to it.

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

@urbanmel It is shocking. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all return to some mythical happy world where humans weren't so terrible to each other?

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

@urbanmel Whoohooo!

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

@AnyAnagram Same. And I've lived in places where recording things for posterity wasn't really a thing, but at least there was a sense of cultural heritage and oral history. Now everything feels like it's changing so fast, and only in one direction. Down.

[Expat Repeat @ExpatRepeat]

How ironic- I get winter tires put on my car so I’ll be safer in the event I have to drive myself to a hospital, where staff would happily infect me with a deadly virus because they “don’t have to mask anymore.” 😩

“Why am I the only one in my house getting sick?”

Scrolling through and it’s the same story on repeat.
Family has no symptoms. Nobody else even gets a sniffle.

This has been Covid’s signature move for many since 2020. One person in the household absorbs the full symptomatic hit while everyone else stays untouched or asymptomatic.

It never meant Covid is not contagious. It means some people have been taking the repeated damage for years while the rest of the house shrugs, moves on, and thinks nothing of it.
This is why so many people are suffering alone on repeat again and again since 2020.

@urbanmel And if you need cheap, temporary, semi-smash- proof dishes, cheap plastic plates meant for children might be an option. Yeah, I know, plastic isn’t good for the earth. But people are always giving it away here when their kids grow up, so maybe you could find some for short term.
