Our joint study “Submerged” with @ExpediteJustice is available in French. Read it and share it with your French-speaking colleagues!
“Submerged” is a thorough analysis of various aspects of the #Kakhovka Dam’s destruction, including conclusions on environmental damage and the possibility of bringing those responsible to justice, the history and economy of the region, a description of damage to biodiversity and soil health, as well as the impact on people — property damage, human losses, displacement, and health risks.
This comprehensive report will serve as a crucial resource for understanding the full scope of the #Kakhovka Dam destruction by #Russian troops and its lasting global impact. This case may be the first application by the ICC of Article 8(2)(b)(iv) of the Rome Statute, which refers to the causing of “excessive” environmental damage compared to the expected military advantage. Thus, international law may become more effective in punishing #environmental crimes at the global level.
