@VickieforNYC Wonder how many NYC landlords are now trying to sell, and if anyone is buying, and for how much. When the government wants you dead or destitute, it’s time to get out
@jardiniernormie Zahn did a great job keeping Luke, Leia, Han, etc feel “authentic”. I think a huge part of the original’s charm is a variant of the “would you like to have a beer with person X?” - the “would you want to escape from a Death Star with Luke/etc?”
@FloridaFloGrown@NeedlesslyWordy Pizza delivery was rarer than Christmas. Dad would drive to pick it up, and the kid (usually me) would hold it in the front seat to make sure it didn’t tilt too much and mess up the toppings.
@elbh I remember my dad getting turned down for a card in the mid 70s. He worked/quasi-owned a small family business. Afterwards used cash for everything, no matter how many CC offers he got. I used CCs for almost everything (reward pts) but I kind of wish cash was the better option
@SandyofCthulhu@TheREALeataTREE Starting the film with Achilles battling Hector, and then juxtapose that with a 100x more fierce battle of Miss Piggy vs the initial Helen of Troy
@MKHLmusic@LibertyJen@aaron_clarey We’ll see how successful Elon and friends are with that. When easy goals turn out to be hard, there a lot of opportunities for folks who know how to made tradeoffs & solutions. LLMs are great for parroting back known solutions - but there are a lot of limitations.
@MKHLmusic@LibertyJen@aaron_clarey I worked at one job for 25 years, my current one for 12. Like I said with AI - be implementing, not using. I will admit my biggest concern is where robots will be in 5 years. If I was in their shoes, I’d be studying Vision-Language-action models, not LLMs
@MKHLmusic@LibertyJen Hmm, Google has the median entry-level salary for a petroleum engineer at $103,400. Back when oil hit $140 a barrel in 2008, that salarywas about $90,000, so the wage inflation has exceeded price inflation- which is a good thing if you’re an engineer.
@MKHLmusic@LibertyJen Well, my wages in 2005 were pretty atypical. Back when I was homeschooling them in high school I had them listen to @aaron_clarey audiobook “Worthless - how to avoid a useless college degree” - these days, the best paths seem to be trades, energy, or AI (implementing, not using)
@MKHLmusic@LibertyJen Also, prior to Iran, gas was about $2.65-$2.85 (and they’ve got a hybrid - the tolls cost more than the gas. But, of course, everyone’s mileage will vary on any data
@LibertyJen Similar here (started paying SS at 15), but until I got an engineering degree, the $ wasn’t substantial (internship was nice $ for 20 years old but that went to buy a car, and then a car with AC (moved to TX). What age did you buy a house? About 28 here
@NAllison89 Well, there’s pinching pennies and then there’s wasting money. It’s rare for someone to get rich if they’re in the habit of wasting money. Read “The Millionaire Next Door”
