Happy Día de los Muertos from the Biden-Harris Administration. This year, the First Lady collaborated with the National Mexican Art Museum on the ofrenda and, for the first time in history, showcased photos of staff’s loved ones who passed to celebrate their lives and memories.
Our 36th Day of the Dead exhibition remembers the numerous individuals from Mexico and the U.S. who have died from COVID and other tragedies in the last year. Come experience this age-old tradition of honoring the lives of lost loved ones.
The Museum will be open late today from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm for Día de los Muertos. It will be a perfect chance to see this year’s Day of the Dead exhibition, Día de Muertos: Memories & Offerings.
The Museum’s Chief Curator Cesáreo Moreno and Registrar Raquel Aguiñaga-Martinez created the ofrenda, which incorporated White House staff photos. We are proud to celebrate this wonderful Mexican tradition in collaboration with the White House.
https://t.co/KQ2AHk1tzA The National Museum of Mexican Art is honored to have been asked by the @WhiteHouse to create an ofrenda for Día de Muertos this year.
Through this ofrenda, the White House celebrates Mexican culture and offers Latina/o staff an opportunity to honor their departed loved ones, steps away from the Oval Office.
We’re hosting a spooky double feature! Join us on Thursday, October 27th at 6:30 pm for a FREE screening of two restored Mexican classics, La Llorona (70 minutes) and The Phantom of the Monastery (85 minutes). Read more about the films here: https://t.co/R3C3rOP1v0
