Let’s build 4.6m homes, mostly in the countryside (and many in Green Belt countryside) and pretend it does not harm the countryside.
That’s quite some claim, even for you @CentreforCities!

"Billions of pounds worth of new-build homes have been bought using suspicious funds because of a loophole in Britain’s property sale rules, a report has found."
That wouldn't help with affordability!

National Grid is trying to fell a 300-year old oak it promised to save. (The farmer even checked this morning that they would keep their promise and they said yes). This afternoon he finds out they were lying and WERE going to fell it. He has stopped them - for good?
This cap is still too high. An average multiple of 4.5 buys a £495k home without any help.
Why don’t they cap it at average house price (Zoopla £273k August) or with addtl London cap?
This is set to please developers.

Well, this is depressing. @KemiBadenoch I think you may have misunderstood that voters want greater protections for nature and the environment?

@AngelaRayner and this out of touch government will not listen!
The new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) rules make it even harder for communities to object to unsustainable development…..every common sense reason for refusal no longer apply in the same way…what’s worse the new rules apply immediately even to applications already under consideration, meaning communities hard work campaigns are now pointless.

𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 [𝑛𝑜𝑢𝑛]: the alarming growth of private cars in height, width, length and weight at the expense of public space, the environment and overall safety.
Brilliant illustration here of the creeping rise of SUVs, child-killing planet-choking monstrosities which are completely unnecessary but pander to some people’s sad inadequacy. If tempted to buy one, try therapy instead, it will be cheaper for you and safer for the rest of us.
18 years ago, scientists drew up 9 planetary boundaries not be transgressed if the world is to remain safe and secure. Today they report we have crossed a record seven - with ocean acidification joining others like climate change and biodiversity loss.

In 2025, there was enough brownfield land to accommodate a minimum of 1.54 million homes across England, exceeding the government’s national housing delivery pledge of 1.5 million. Over the last 4 years (2022-25), there has been a steady increase in brownfield sites, area and minimum net dwellings – each year, there is more brownfield land that is left untapped.

The team behind Forest City are cynically trying to persuade everyone in East Anglia that their own little patches of countryside will be saved if the team are allowed to build a city for a million people somewhere else in rural Suffolk.
That's not how housing targets work.
County leader: Whitehall has a ‘total lack of understanding’
Cllr Spivey criticised government’s approach to planning – saying the housing crisis should be solved through “locally-led placemaking with a commitment to building council houses”, rather than the government’s “top-down centralised housing number calculation imposed on local councils”.
