The EAC Secretary General @SGNduva posed this challenge as hundreds of higher education stakeholders gathered for the 16th Annual Conference of the Inter-University Council for East Africa @iucea_info in Kinshasa, DRC.
She called on institutions of higher learning to lead by embracing innovation, embedding real-world problem-solving in research and preparing graduates with future-ready skills.

๐น Promoting transdisciplinary approaches
๐น Strengthening policies for a harmonised, quality-assured higher education space
๐ SG Nduva also commended IUCEA, under its Executive Secretary, Prof. Gaspard Banyankimbona, for advancing harmonisation, accreditation and quality assurance across the region.
โ IUCEA already has a growing presence in DRC, with over 10 member universities contributing to its network of nearly 170 institutions across East Africa.

๐Launch of #CHAN2024 Ugandan Chapter
โ๏ธThe EAC Secretary General @SGnduva attended the official launch of the #CHAN2024 Ugandan chapter, a significant event that was graced by the President of Uganda,@KagutaMuseveni
The launch marked a key moment in the preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, which is a prestigious football competition for national teams composed of players who play in their home countryโs domestic leagues.
During the event, President Museveni emphasized the importance of the tournament in fostering regional integration, sporting excellence, and enhancing Ugandaโs visibility on the continental sports stage.
The President who was accompanied by his wife and Minister of Education & Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni reiterated the governmentโs commitment to supporting the success of the event through infrastructure development and logistical support.
On her part, the EAC Secretary General said the impact of hosting CHAN-2024 and the upcoming AFCON-2027 will be felt far beyond the stadiums and the goals that will be scored. Tourism, hospitality, transport, and media industries will provide a crucial boost for job creation particularly for the region's youth
She said, with over 65% of the East African population under the age of 30, football provides a vital platform for positive engagement.
"The joint bid by the Republic of Kenya, Uganda, and the United Republic of Tanzania to co-host both CHAN-2024 & AFCON-2027 represents a historic milestone, not only in the annals of African football but also in the journey of East African unity"
The CHAN2024 tournament is expected to bring together teams from across the continent, showcasing the talent and passion for football in East Africa, with Uganda playing a pivotal role in the organization and hosting of the competition.
The successful launch of the Ugandan chapter signals a promising start for the tournament and sets the stage for an exciting year of preparations leading up to the event.

As the continent grapples with limited resources to finance its development ambitions, the EAC Secretary General, @SGNduva , has called for a unified, continent-wide resource mobilization strategy to replace fragmented and duplicative efforts and to strengthen Africaโs resource coalition.
She emphasized the need for coordinated action to unlock large-scale financing capable of advancing the goals of Agenda 2063.
Hon. Nduva was speaking at a high-level roundtable convened by the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (@Nepad_agency), bringing together the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf (@_AfricanUnion), AU institutions, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), AU Member States representatives, development partners and other key stakeholders to deliberate on how to fast-track the realization of Agenda 2063 through more effective and African-led resource mobilization.
In her remarks, the Secretary General advocated for blended finance, leveraging public, private, and philanthropic capital and urged greater involvement of African philanthropists and the private sector in defining and deepening their contributions.
She also called for the adoption of austerity measures where necessary and underscored the importance of integrating technology into all efforts to strengthen planning, coordination, and implementation.
Echoing this call for transformation, H.E. Youssouf stressed the urgency of moving away from donor dependency toward a model anchored in African ownership and strategic alignment with the continentโs priorities.

The EAC Secretary General, @SGNduva, participated in the 4th Policy Session of the African Union Inter-Regional Economic Communities Knowledge Exchange (AU I-RECKE), held under the theme Structural Conflict Prevention: Continental and Regional Lessons.
The session brought together AU institutions, RECs, RMs and other regional actors to exchange perspectives on addressing the structural causes of conflict across Africa.
The Secretary General highlighted the importance of youth inclusion, the empowerment of women and the use of technology as key tools in addressing structural vulnerabilities and promoting long-term stability.
She further underscored the value of people-centred approaches and responsive institutions in preventing conflict before it escalates.

I had the absolute pleasure of being part of the just-concluded UN Climate Change Conference (SB62) in Bonn, Germany, a powerful convergence of global minds, negotiators, and climate advocates working to shape the road to COP30 in Belรฉm, Brazil.
From intense negotiation rooms to insightful side events, youth negotiator talks and trainings, every moment was a reminder of the urgency and responsibility we carry, especially for vulnerable communities.
Iโm particularly proud to have represented Uganda and to witness the growing inclusion of youth voices in these high-level spaces.

As the International Social Work and Social Development Conference concluded today @Makerere, a delegation comprising members from across East Africa and the wider African continent, participating in the conference, paid a courtesy visit to @TheJNLC. The groupโcomprising scholars, academicians, and policy makersโvisited the Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre to learn more about its mission, which honours the legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. They expressed great interest in the Centreโs work in nurturing youth leaders across the region, grounded in the ideals Mwalimu Nyerere championedโservant leadership and Pan-Africanism.

This afternoon@TheJNLC has hosted the Granddaughter of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Ms. Helena Nyerere accompanied by Mr. Godfrey Mgassa and Mr. Rayrich Mosha. The courtesy visit to the Centre followed their participation in the beatification and canonisation service of Mwalimu Nyerere on 2nd June 2025, at Uganda Martyrโs Shrine Namugongo.
The visitors received a commissioned painting of Mwalimu Nyerere by a young Ugandan artist Fred Mwaike. They appreciated how the Centre through its programmes continues , to uphold and honour Mwalimu Nyerereโs legacy in Uganda. Ms. Helena commended the great work JNLC is doing to train young people in leadership anchored in the ideas and ideals of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. She planted a memorial soursop fruit tree at JNLC. She promises to keep coming to Makerere University to monitor its progress.

The EAC Deputy Secretary General, @AguerAriik is leading the EAC delegation in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration to accelerate regional infrastructure, enhance connectivity and fast-track the implementation of the AfCFTA.
He further highlighted:
๐น The need to establish and operationalize technical platforms between Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to realize strategies already articulated.
๐น The need to prioritize the use of technology to boost intra-African trade.
๐น The importance in supporting peace and security across the continent in enabling infrastructure development in fragile regions of Africa.
The @AfDB is a long-standing partner of the EAC, supporting priority regional initiatives such as key multinational road corridors, including the extension of the Central Corridor Standard Gauge Railway from Tanzania to Burundi, cross-border power interconnectors to improve energy access and programmes in industrialization, trade, and agriculture among others.

Itโs been a whirlwind of lectures, winter blues (trust me, snow looks way better in movies), meal prepping, adjusting to a new academic system, making new friends and a couple of trips to NYC and Washington DC.
Wrapping up my 1st semester at Boston University has taught me more than I imagined.
