Out of all recorded cases, this virus has had a 36% fatality rate, according to WHO

WHO recommends "SURVEILLANCE IN BOTH HUMANS AND ANIMALS" because of its "high fatality rate, large geographical range, and lack of medical interventions."

WHO also has listed MERS-CoV as a "HIGH-PRIORITY PATHOGEN" in order to "maintain control of this virus."
