NIMC DG/CEO, Engr. Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has lauded the immeasurable support of the Nigeria Police FORCE (NPF) and the Nigeria Cybercrime Centre (NCCC) for assisting the NIMC in combating illegal National Identification Number (NIN) activities.
Engr Coker-Odusote made this statement at the NIMC-NCCC press conference at the NCCC headquarters, Abuja. Some illegal NIN centres were raided by the security operatives nationwide, particularly in Kano, Oyo, Lagos, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, she said. This raid led to the arrest of some suspects, confiscation of fake enrolment devices and subsequent arrest of some persons.
In a similar vein, the NCCC successfully shut down 13 phishing sites illegally collecting the data of Nigerians and some arrests were made. The suspects will be charged in court soon.
Engr Coker-Odusote thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Inspector General of Police, DG, DSS, and other security agencies for the giant strides recorded in the fight against data phishing and illegal NIN activities.
