@bretajohnson I've had to deaden myself. It took a long time. I resisted. I couldn't get my head around management saying they want us to be engaged when they really want us to give up.
But it's done and I'm at peace, even happy.
@milan_milanovic If I work a single minute over 40 hours it's because I'm into what I'm doing and enjoying it. That happens at least one day every week.
The guy went in the enclosure and the tiger attacked him. That sounds like a 100% "attack the human rate" before it ever attacked a human. How much more likely to attack a human can it become?
The thing with the tiger, which I havenโt seen anyone post about, is that humans are not its natural prey. This tiger is very unlikely to have ever attacked a human being before
But now it has, and undoubtedly developed a taste for it
Its odds of attacking again are significantly elevated
It will be much more dangerous for its handlers, or anyone coming into contact with it in the future
I open the .NET solution Claude is working on in Visual Studio out of habit. When I want to read a markdown file, i drag it into VS.
I just realized I haven't used VS for anything else in at least a month.
@shannonical Children can walk until they won't anymore. That's reality.
When you see a two-year-old in a stroller, you don't know much they walked before getting in the stroller, or how much they'll walk later.
It's also easier to manage them.
@anabelle_dawn There nothing more boring and unoriginal than two people sending some sort of power/force/energy at each other, it meets in the middle, and they slide backwards or fly away from each other. We've seen it 1000 times. That's not trying.
Can we not do better with news, @X?
Isn't it embarrassing that Yahoo! is better?
Not only is it garbage, but it's two days old. It says so.
How about letting me refresh and get something else?
Codex is rewriting 1500 tests. The project went off-track and we had the wrong types of tests for many scenarios.
Its job is to document what each test is actually meant to prove. Then it must categorize them and use the fastest, least expensive test for each one.
@violavain I wouldn't say we're particularly wealthy.
As income increases, we're very careful about upgrading our lifestyle. Other than buying a house, absolutely none of it - zero - involves debt. If we can afford it today, great. If we can't tomorrow, we'll do without it.
@DanGeor17122553 Doing that to a person also feels, well, personal. It's not an attack on the person, but it feels like that anyway. If a really must have the debate, I can do it with Grok.
I must not engage in any debates about AI. No one makes me do it. I'm not forced to respond to anything I disagree with. I shouldn't debate anything with anyone on the Internet. Doing it at all is an unhealthy habit for me and then I feel guilty for wasting my time.
@DanGeor17122553 That's true. But I also develop unhealthy habits.
Brandolini's Law, the BS Asymmetry Principle, also comes into play. It takes no effort for someone to say something wrong or stupid, and much more to refute it. And then they can just say another stupid thing.
@valigo This is how I feel about a lot of DevOps type work. I don't do it often enough to really learn, and by the time it comes up again someone has changed all the tools.
The last major change I made would have taken a week of exasperation. It look an LLM 15 minutes.
