🇿🇦😳2008 Bond of R48 000 Still Owing R55 000, After Paying R300 000
Gill Gifford reported the shocking story of a Standard Bank customer from the Western Cape who took out a R48 000 bond for an RDP house back in 2008.
The man allegedly started skipping instalments, which led to massive arrear amounts. Now nearing 60, he wanted to retire to his home in the Eastern Cape, but the bank insisted that he still owed thousands for the RDP house.
He has already repaid a whopping R300 000 to the bank but somehow still owed R55 000 🤷♂️.
The situation remained deadlocked until the man’s boss and the Banking Ombudsman took Standard Bank on over the ridiculous matter.
In a surprising twist, Standard Bank folded and decided to ‘cancel’ the remaining debt.
They now claim, “the man is close to retirement, and we recognise how much pressure the outstanding balance would place on him in the years ahead”.
Really, Standard Bank? What would have happened if no one took you on in this insane robbery?
