Ordering a car from the United States yourself is not rocket science, it’s actually quite simple. Follow me as i show you the step by step process of buying and shipping your very own car from the United States, to YOUR doorstep. 🫵🏾
Firstly, finding the car. You can go about this through many ways — auction (copart), dealer auctions like Manheim or through dealerships. Let’s use the dealership route for the sake of simplicity.
Hop on to your browser and use any of these sites below.
- Car gurus (need a VPN if you’re in Nigeria)
- Cars . com
- Edmunds . com
- True Car
- iSeecars
- Car fax used cars
On each of these sites, you can search for a car based on your preferences. Choose your own interior color, exterior color, mileage, etc, and click search — it will bring up cars that fit that description. If you can’t find the exact car, compromise on some options.
Once you find a car that speaks to you, scroll down the page to the dealer section and find the dealer’s contact information, call the number (add +1 before it) and make sure they’re open — the US is currently 6-7 hours behind in most parts.
Let them know what car you’re interested in and ask for the carfax or any other car history document (Carfax’s used car site gives this for free on the site) and a proper physical inspection record if you do not have boots on the ground to go check it out themselves (i will attach an example of one i got for a @truespecbynac customer car). Once that’s completed, have them prep the paperwork FOR EXPORT (export cars are not liable to sales tax amongst others in most states), all you’ll need to add on to the list price is the dealer documentation fee which ranges from $300-900.
Pay through their preferred payment method (USDT, Zelle or Wire transfer) and have the paperwork signed, they’ll let you know what information they need from you.
Next step, trucking and shipping. For trucking, you can use this neat AI tool called https://t.co/CffRaNMMk1 to schedule a pick up from the dealership to a port of your choice — it gives you the cost estimate before you commit. Once you have that estimate, contact a shipping company to arrange for roro or container shipping (Grimaldi, sallaum, royal shipping lines etc). Container is safer but more expensive unless you’re shipping several cars at once.
Truck the car to the port and get the paperwork sorted, it’s pretty easy to navigate — the shipping line will let you know all they need from you.
Once the car is loaded up and put on the ship, you can begin to look for a reliable and well priced clearing agent. You can pay full duty or what is known as “compromise” duty, which isn’t really a problem unless you travel interstate — your clearing agent will explain these to you, if they don’t, ask them.
6-8 weeks later, your car will be brought in to Nigeria, have someone at the port oversee the process or risk getting items stolen on RORO shipments. Pay the agreed amount to your agent and they’ll handle everything and have your car processed and cleared where they can deliver it anywhere in Lagos.
If you live outside lagos, arrange with a reputable trucking company to have the. car trucked to your home. Register the car and get all the necessary paperwork done quickly and MOST ESPECIALLY, get preventive maintenance and a service done before you start using the vehicle.
Congratulations, you just bought and delivered your very own car to your house!.
If this process seems too complicated and hectic, you could always message @truespecbynac and we can do this whole process for you, for an agreed price of course 😉.
This is the preorder process, essentially A-Z. If you can wait a few weeks to get your car, it’s a good alternative to buying local. If you ARE buying local, i made a post regarding the proper way to go about it on my page.
This has been Mr NAC, thank you for your time. 🫵🏾❤️
