@CapOveur@spookygirlrain Damn. That sounds disappointing. Though I would have loved another Amazon women or uhf for effectively Letting jokes live outside the core narrative.
@CapOveur@spookygirlrain 5/10 actually sounds dandy as a one off break from the norm. Then you said epic movie and I got worried haha. I’ll keep my expectations low and hope to have a few good laughs. Thanks :)
@DanielTStocks@CopaExMachina I’ve been on both sides. Been short changed on work or left without it as well as providing jobs and roles and pay and was untenable for me as it was my personal savings. I’m not bitter. I took the risk. Same as anything. Not everyone can afford to lose on all sides.
@wompstompfilms It’s very nice to hear that you have the means and the purpose to do this. It’s not been my experience that loyalty and collaboration is supported from the top down so way to go and my fingers are crossed you achieve success with it. If you can, lead the way.
@wompstompfilms Genuinely some productions don’t have that leeway day to day but I also do agree cutting in back end is a more fair way of doing it. However, it makes it a harder sell for getting the film sold/distributed as producers/buyers want as much of the final pie as possible.
@Putney_Kotto@astromarko By the way. I don’t disagree that everyone should be taken care of. I think it scales dramatically based on budget. But if we were talking about a 5+ million film, no excuse not to compensate correctly.
@Putney_Kotto@astromarko As close to successful id say was I didn’t crew but had an acting role in a vampire film called bogieville. Awards wise crew work only of note for short films or music videos.
@wompstompfilms I been that crew many times getting paid less than I’m worth. It can be a real nasty race to the bottom this industry. But media and film is expensive. It’s golden rule. Whoever is ponying up the gold makes the rules. Otherwise no film, no job. Not to say sometimes it isn’t greed
@luke21357@endless_prayer@achingkneejoint Disagree. You work in film to get notice to work on more film. Bigger/better. Same as actors, etc. if you do not feel safe to take this risk move to a different kind of work at least part time. It is a choice. No one is entitled to follow their dreams. You choose to. I did / lost
@WhittakerWelles@CopaExMachina I agree if backend was offered 100% you are taking on an additional form of risk in exchange for less money up front. I don’t think this post would have been relevant if they had given her points.
@studiomurdock How many warehouse workers does Jeff bezos cut bonus checks to Every quarter they do well?
Or it specialists and web designers?
And how many did he do the several years Amazon ran at a loss.
Employees are paid and take no risk beyond. Therefore no reward.
@luke21357@endless_prayer@achingkneejoint Was my choice. To support projects I wanted to see go somewhere. We shot a music video for a small group once. They couldn’t afford much and everyone agreed to work for food and time including our cam operator/ our 20k worth of equipment. All media is risk/reward. Bound by scale.
@luke21357@endless_prayer@achingkneejoint Not trying to misframe what you said. My argument is if the budget to make the film is low enough it’s a choice to make it and a choice to offer what you can. It’s then a choice to work on it or not and if no one will work on it it won’t get made. I’ve worked for free on projects
@luke21357@endless_prayer@achingkneejoint Don’t get me wrong and I know the sentiment comes from a place of wanting better lives and equality but it’s either “if you can’t afford more don’t do it” or “it can only be done this way” for the smallest indies. Choice to take it not is still choice. For better and worse.
