If you have very pessimistic fears or predictions about AI, name the market prices that will support or confirm them. That is what taking this seriously means: https://t.co/1RwaBPCrth
@tylercowen I don't understand how this works at all. I fear someone will use AI to bioengineer a civilization ending virus with 3-5 years. What would the market price of OpenAI be now or within the next 3-5 years as a result of that? & how would my precisely knowing it change my pessimism?
@benshapiro Look at you using the word 'some', glad to see such nuance. Who knows - maybe next you'll only blame bad media coverage by specific reporters on those reporters or outlets rather than all of 'the mainstream Media'...
@EliLebowicz@JYuter Really I agree that 'no hell in Judaism' is, broadly speaking, a misconception. But just pointing out that it's not that far off, considering the Rambam is in fact in that camp, and explicitly in the Mishneh Torah no less (not like some Moreh Nevuchim obscurity)
@EliLebowicz@JYuter I'm not super familiar with the development of Kaddish for mourners (@JYuter may know more), that may have been separate from any specific conception of hell, and only tied together later. Or maybe that minhag developed within the mainstream Jewish conception of hell
@EliLebowicz@JYuter In people's defense, while of course not the only (or majority) opinion on the topic, Rambam in Hilchot Teshuva in Mishneh Torah basically states that there's no hell (just heaven and non-existence)
@benshapiro Perek of Megillah Esther about the Jews obsessed about how great Haman would be for the Persian empire and the world is the subplot I never knew I needed until now
@bethanyshondark Don't see the inherent issue with this as a matter of messaging and strategy. Sam Harris, a strong defender of Israel, has made a similar point re Zionism.
@NateSilver538 Is this taking into account the various ways the Trump administration might plausibly attempt to quasi-legally interfere with elections? Do you not think any of that will actually happen, or will not have a big effect, or is that just beyond the scope of what can be modeled?
