Capitalism and socialism are based on radically different fundamental ideas that are not compatible with each other. It can never and will never “work” well, because by the standards of each, the other is evil. For example, under capitalism in principle there is no such thing as public property; all property is privately owned. Under socialism in principle there is no private property; all property is government- or publicly owned. Many many examples of this under each system. They can’t be coherently combined, and as long as we try there will be conflicting forces competing for power.
