Wow, this blew up! I'm just going to say we knew there would be people taking the piss or spending their sweet time on tweeting about us. But the important thing is that our purpose remains the same. To help and support people who need it and change this community for the better.
The male population loves to poke and prod females to their breaking point only to play victim. You don’t own Formula One. You don’t own Twitter. If you wouldn’t say what you tweet to your mother’s face–don’t post it at all. You can’t demand respect yet be a misogynist.
Sexism is so normalized in the F1 community that people have become immune to it. Look at some of the most influential people within the sport–they too were fans once. The constant push of “women don’t belong in F1” “women need their own series” is BLATANT sexism. 👁👈🏽
community. All we're asking is that you treat us the same way you treat men. Women deserve the same respect as men, and I truly think we, as a community, can be better than we are right now. We're all here in tragedy and happiness both, so might as well try and get along, yeah? /
I wasn't treated like some stupid girl who only watches motorsports to see cute boys. I was treated like part of the community because I *am* part of it.
But we shouldn't need tragedy to be treated as such.
Girls aren't here to belittle you, to hate on guys, to hijack your
we came together in grief. They also shouldn't matter when we are not collectively grieving. I will always support women in this tale because frankly, women often aren't treated right by this community. But that's exactly the point. When Anthoine passed and I expressed my grief,
@Ben__F1 @F1Women I've seen tweets over the last few hours that explicitly suggest women should be banned from F1 because they're women. This is ironic since it's typically the same men (or morons with inflated egos, as you so eloquently describe) who are calling for grid girls to be brought back.
@BobbyDriverGP @yvanka_elena @rosso_tifosi I totally understand your point of view, however we have chosen to expose these types of behavior in order to fight them.
@BobbyDriverGP @F1Women @rosso_tifosi women are treated like this (in fact, seem utterly convinced all women are making this up) now see that it is in fact real, that it does happen all the time, and in a best case scenario this creates awareness and allies. Allies is exactly any targeted groups need.
@BobbyDriverGP @F1Women @rosso_tifosi Your heart is in the right place and I do understand what you're saying. Thing is, remaining silent gives people like this the space to continue this behaviour and we should oppose it. More importantly, people like the person I replied to, who don't believe that
@TheNotix@FolksyCash04@FormulaOneMen It's not "the internet" it's the sexism embedded in the core of the F1 community that comes to light the easiest on Twitter where people can hide behind a screen while targeting others because of their gender.
