About demographics: Green Lake boasts a 1:1 male : female ratio, and a 15:1 white : blue collar ratio. There are about 5700 homes, a third of those built before 1940. The median income is $108,000 and 1/3 people there use primarily public transit.
Apartments in this neighborhood are neither abundant nor cheap, usually costing between $1200 and $2500 a month. This is tough on new residents trying to establish themselves in the area, especially in addition to the city's already high cost of living.
Zillow estimates the median price of a home in Green Lake to be just shy of $1,000,000. There are no signs of this number decreasing any time soon either; over the last decade it has seen nothing but reliable linear increase.

Urban Planning has had a major impact on the sociability and characterization of Green Lake. Because of its strategic urban planning, it is now known for its natural elements, family compatibility, commercial areas, and American Craftsman style houses.
Housing: Barrier
Housing in Greenlake has increasingly become a barrier due to it becoming overpriced. Greenlake’s unaffordable housing could potentially drive away new residents and pose an issue to those currently residing in the neighborhood.
There are many elements that make up a neighborhood, some of which are assets to the community and some which are barriers that hinder the progress of its development. Let’s take a look at some of Greenlake’s most prominent elements and whether they are an asset or barrier…
Public Parks & Green Spaces: Asset
Not only have such natural elements provided Greenlake with its very namesake, but they also serve as a focal point of the community and give citizens a beautiful place to gather and exercise.
This situation has caused patrons of the park to become frustrated. There is currently no plan to aid the homeless people residing in the park. There have been protests demanding the removal of these large homeless camps.
Homelessness has a huge impact on the Green Lake community. There are many tents and RV campers scattered around the lake. This has caused increased levels of pollution, making the park more hazardous for visitors. Swimming is now too dangerous due to the waste from the camps.
The park was how we expected it to be, with shops, restaurants, and houses built around the lake. There were not any boats out on the lake when we were there but we saw numerous docks and the athletic fields for visitors to use. It was very similar to how it was described.
