The Federation of Associations for Counselling Therapists in Alberta is an alliance of professional associations that represent counsellors and therapists.
The Act has received Royal Assent and is now law. It's been a long journey of advocacy & we are so proud of our diverse members. Thank you for making this a priority and seeing it through. Looking forward to the coming months & creation of a new college of Counselling Therapy.
The opening date of the College is uncertain, but likely to occur sometime between fall 2019 - fall 2020, after Cabinet sets a proclamation date. There are 3 registration routes: Expedited, Intermediate, and Regular. To learn more about these routes: https://t.co/oKsUDmxzxM
Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA) will become the College of Counselling Therapy of Alberta, where the professions of Counselling Therapist, Addictions Counsellor, & Child and Youth Care Counsellor will become protected titles when the College is proclaimed.
The Steering Committee members of FACT-AB now sit as the Directors for @ACTA_Alberta, thus ensuring ongoing representation for all of the member practitioner associations. To learn more about the Executive and newly elected members Have a look: https://t.co/gSETqgusAY

FACT-AB was established to advocate for regulation of the profession in AB. In order for a college to be established, we were asked by the provincial government to create a single association, ACTA. To learn more about next steps visit: https://t.co/gSETqgM3Zy #abpoli
@NewLeaf_Shakti Hi there! We hope to have new information up by the end of this week. Please stay tuned! We appreciate your patience very much. Getting this right is important to us.
Thanks for your patience in this time of transition! FACT- AB has been hard at work. If you're a practitioner, working as a Counselling Therapist, Addictions Counsellor, or Child & Youth Care Counsellor, we will be offering info to help understand what the changes mean for you!
So grateful Bill 30 Mental Health Services Protection Act has now passed third reading. These changes are so important and will touch many lives. #ableg@FACT_Alberta
Such a long journey of advocacy has come to an end for FACT-AB! We are such diverse group of professionals - but we have worked so well together all of these years, united for what we knew was right for Albertans. All 13 associations - thank-you! #ableg#Mentalhealth
WOW!The Mental Health Protection Act just passed third reading unanimously.Such moving and passionate statements in favour by MLA @DebJabbour,@DShepYEG,and @shoffmanAB this afternoon.Thank-you to government for listening to Albertans and improving mental health services for all!
We agree that mental health and wellness depends on not only training professionals included in this bill, but natural helpers we all rely in in every space and every part of our life span.
Watching the debate on Bill 30 - need to clarify: FACT-AB has been inviting CACCF to join us for the past 3 years. They were not interested. This has not impeded our ability to consider their members needs, however, as two of their members sit on the FACT-AB steering committee.
Thank you to @ctvedmonton for capturing the progress we've made toward regulation of Counselling Therapy in Alberta. More here: https://t.co/l2KTtNBaBj
Thank you to everyone who sent letters to their MLA's & other elected officials. The Government has listened. We have taken a giant step forward to ensure safe & effective counselling services for Albertans. #Regulation#mentalhealth
Yesterday, @shoffmanAB introduced legislation that would create a new College of Counselling Therapy to regulate counselling professionals. This will ensure that Albertans are seeking help from qualified professionals & receive safe & effective counselling services. #regulation
For too long, Albertans looking for a therapist or private substance-use treatment facility have been left to figure it out on their own. Today I introduced legislation that would take away the guesswork, helping families get the safe, competent care they need with peace of mind.
