🔬Research Spotlight
Tuberculosis is often diagnosed only after symptoms become apparent, allowing many early-stage, asymptomatic, and extrapulmonary TB cases to go undetected. Researchers at AIIMS are exploring a simple, non-invasive urine-based approach using urine proteomic biomarkers that could help identify these hard-to-diagnose forms of TB earlier, particularly in children and individuals without clear symptoms.
The study identified 29 protein markers in urine linked to active TB, offering a promising way to support diagnosis when conventional tests may not detect the disease.
Earlier detection can mean earlier treatment, reduced transmission, and stronger progress towards India's goal of eliminating TB.

On World Preeclampsia Day, medical experts at AIIMS New Delhi are highlighting a critical public health concern: the rising incidence of preeclampsia among pregnant women in India.
Preeclampsia, characterized by high blood pressure during pregnancy, remains the third leading cause of maternal mortality in the country. Dr. Neena Malhotra, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at AIIMS, emphasizes that while the condition is serious, severe complications can be prevented in up to 90% of cases through early screening during the first trimester.

An AIIMS-WHO study reveals that nearly 30% of Delhi’s population requires corrective eyewear, with school-age myopia projected to spike significantly by 2050. At the same time, there is a rising concern over Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)—a highly preventable cause of childhood blindness in preterm infants. AIIMS specialists emphasize that timely eye screenings within 2 to 3 weeks of birth and properly monitored oxygen delivery in NICUs are critical to preventing irreversible vision loss.
Listen to Dr. Praveen Vashist and Dr. Suraj Singh explain the specifics of the problems here: https://t.co/4QYCTJWEUm

FAIMS raises serious concerns over the NEET-UG irregularities and strongly recommends conducting the examination in two phases — Main & Advanced — to ensure a more transparent, merit-based, and fair selection process for future medical professionals.
A two-stage examination system can reduce the impact of irregularities in a single exam and strengthen credibility in medical admissions.
