Richmond FarmWatch with some dedicated Richmond residents stopped mega mansions on protected #farmland in #RichmondBC and all of #ALR in BC. It took several years to get it done and it will take several years to recover. #bcpoli#moneylaundering

@Richmond_BC taxpayers are asked to hand over more property tax money, charities are told NO to grants, the city says NO $ for invasive blackberry removal, and meanwhile almost $300,000 worth of gift cards went awol because the city said NO to oversight and distribution records.
It is time to talk about getting B.C.'s Agricultural Land Reserve back in production to avoid food shortages & higher costs. Only 1.1% of BC will grow vegetables. The best class 1-3 soils are in the Lower Mainland taken out of production by mega-mansions https://t.co/OxVpBdfGr1

We are looking forward to the return of Lana Popham in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Let's crack down on industrial use of #farmland and fake farms taking advantage of tax benefits. #ALR
Wow! Two of my favourite @BCNDP MLA's are in Cabinet. Lana Popham the best Minister of Agriculture since 1972 is back as Minister. Kelly Greene, who took my place as the only Richmond Steveston NDP MLA is Minister of Emergency Management & Climate Readiness, a role I once played
*Statement from the BC Fruit Growers' Association*
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the BC Government and Minister Alexis for their recent announcement of increased support for our province's fruit growers. This initiative is a significant milestone for our industry and a testament to the government's commitment to our agricultural community.
The BCFGA has been working with the government to explore every possible avenue to assist growers. Our steadfast efforts will ensure the government's commitment to finding solutions and continuing support for our industry.
We appreciate the government's recognition of our contributions and their continued support. Together, we will ensure the prosperity and sustainability of BC's fruit-growing sector.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support.

I was recently appointed as the first appointee to the UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems Hall of Fame for my work to establish the Agricultural Land Reserve in 1973 & to preserve farmland & promote food security ever since.
Unfortunately when Councillor @CarolDayRmd moved that a moratorium be placed on building permits for mansions during the #ALR debate, the majority of council at the time voted against. Rules changed but it was too late for near 100 mansions. #RichmondBC
I told you I am terrified. Just a mild increase in temperature & our rainforests are burning, releasing vast amts of CO2 into the atmosphere that will take 100 yrs to reduce as forests slowly regrow. Thawing permafrost doubles human made climate change. https://t.co/Cf9UMaWqTa
Here's your Agri-TECH coming to prime #farmland. Red Bull manufacturing approved to fill 30,000 M2 to build warehouse on class 2 protected #ALR in Chilliwack, BC. It's called "food production". #bcpoli

The B.C. government says the province is experiencing “deep drought conditions” which will remain as we inch closer to the beginning of the 2024 wildfire season. https://t.co/Nsg76k6bqs
“My blueberries are underwater,” said Jhulley. “I’m the farmer. I want to make it grow.”
If there is a drainage issue you make an application for non-farm use. There is no excuse for illegal dumping. #nofillonfarmland
This is what is know as a BC two-fer. Save $ by illegally & cheaply dumping fill on farmland you own. Then make a windfall profit down the road when that fill has rendered your land toxic, & it gets removed from the agricultural land reserve. All along the line crooks prosper.
