Meta’s AI bots are empowered to engage in “romantic role-play.” The chats can turn explicit, even when the users are children. https://t.co/1TZ3jebLnn via @WSJ

I never would have read *Careless People*, Sarah Wynn-Williams's tell-all memoir about her years running global policy for Facebook, but then Meta's lawyer tried to get the book suppressed and secured an injunction to prevent her from promoting it:

Statement below on the second landmark decision v Google in favor of the United States of America. On a personal note, I'm thrilled. This has been a decade in the making, and I believe history will prove it cost publishers globally more billions than one can count.
Seriously. Seriously. Meta/Facebook/Instagram wrote this in a press release today,
“It’s absurd that the FTC is trying to break up a great American company.” This is a company competing for worst reputation among the top 100 brands (Axios Harris 100).
The landmark antitrust case against Meta resumes in Washington today.
The US competition and consumer watchdog alleges that Meta, which already owned Facebook, bought Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014 to eliminate competition, effectively giving itself a monopoly.
Six years ago, I walked into the lair of the tech gods - TED - to warn them democracy may not survive technology.
In fact, I was the one who almost didn’t survive.
This year I returned & called them data rapists.
Complicit in a coup.
Collaborators.
Pretty stunning testimony here from Sarah Wynn-Williams, the latest Meta whistleblower to come forward, to Sen. @MarshaBlackburn:
"Facebook was targeting 13-17-year-olds. It could identify when they were feeling worthless, or helpless... and share it with advertisers."
Do me a favor. If you have had any concerns about Facebook or Instagram aka Meta and its impact on society and/or kids, please make sure you tell the world that the FTC trial to break up the company starts next Monday, April 14th in DC. Unless Zuckerberg gets his way.
