"Instead of looking to be leaders in renewable, cleaner energy, our state and country seems determined to stick to the playbook of extraction and dirty fuels that enrich multinational corporations to the detriment of energy consumers."

"If gas options are presented with dollar values, and renewable options only as hopes and dreams, decision makers and the public can’t really see the full range of choices and trade-offs. Getting real about our energy future means having both eyes open."

Alaskans deserve real solutions.
"Instead of trying to prop up a dirty, dying industry, the federal and state governments should pursue opportunities to develop renewable energy and stop new fossil fuel developments like Alaska LNG."

As we sat together behing the City of Valdez yesterday, it was easy to see the trajectory of this case. The people will win. Not the corporations and their regulatory buddies. And a precedent of transparency will be set in this process. #spillsecretsnotoil

Judge Carney: “there hasn’t been a case like this.”
The BP attorney, could not argue that there has never been a large transfer to a private corporation like this ever before.
#spillsecretsnotoil#spillcorp@AKPIRG
BP’s lawyer argues that there is no requirement to hold a hearing in a certificate transfer without certain statutes, but the judges point out that the DR&R dealings alone would require a hearing.
Hilcorp/Harvest’s attorney argues that Valdez cannot rely on its standing because they didn’t mention constitutional harm in its complaints with the RCA. But as one of the Supreme Court judges stated, the RCA cannot rule on constitutional issues.
The RCA’s attorney has started our oppositions oral arguments. His argument starts by stating this is “about what Valdez failed to do”. An evidentiary hearing was not held because a formal protest was filed. Basically stating 300 public comments mean nothing in the RCA process.
The people are here. The Valdez side of the courtroom is full of Alaskans who are demanding transparency. We are here to help set a precedent today. #spillsecretsnotoil#spillcorp
We are here at the AK Supreme Court hearing on the City of Valdez vs. the Regulatory Commission of Alaska’s approval of the BP-Hilcorp sale. #spillsecretsnotoil
Attorney Brenna: Let me describe the DR&R… This is a multi million dollar train wreck happening in slow motion right in front of our eyes. #spillsecretsnotoil@AKPIRG
Robin Brena just addressed the RCA’s approval of the BP to Hilcorp transfer as a case that did not use rational decision making. The financial basis is unknowable and the decision relied on secret record. The RCA has refused to release the documents.
