Let me try and put this to words.
Our backline was by far the weakest part of this squad. I know this, you know this, everyone knows this.
What does the club do over the summer?
1. Renew Christiansen. A footballer who has spent the majority of his stint at Barça in the doctors office.
2. Spend the entire summer chasing an attainable striker who was probably never feasible or realistic.
3. Let go of Araujo AND Cortes. Which is fine, it was time, but then replace them with absolutely nobody (!!!) - further depleting an already very depleted backline.
Make it make sense.
🚨 Entire footage of the Lamine - Facundo Bernal incident.
- Lamine came to defend Fermín
- F. Bernal PUSHED LAMINE FIRST
- Lamine pushed back
- F. Bernal grabbed Lamine's neck and headbutted him twice
You know, a few years ago, when PSG were spending heavily, dominating Ligue 1 and failing to win the Champions League, the narrative was that the quality of their domestic league was holding them back. People said that dominating a weak league gave them a false sense of superiority, which was exposed whenever they faced the big boys in Europe.
Now they've won the Champions League back to back and are still dominating, with a potential three-peat on the horizon, the excuse has changed to them benefiting from a less competitive league and being able to rest their key players.
So, when they weren't winning, it was because their league wasn't competitive enough to prepare them for Europe. Now that they're succeeding, that same lack of competition is being used to diminish their achievements.
I won't pretend that resting key players doesn't give them an advantage, but I refuse to be one of those people who reduce their hard work, ruthlessness and tactical brilliance to "they rest their players."
This PSG team is a machine. They would finish in the top two or three in any league in the world. They have an elite manager, brilliant mavericks, world-class players and a sporting director who knows exactly what he's doing in the transfer market.
Look at their new signing, Aklichou, balling out against Manchester City last night while Kvaratskhelia was sitting on the bench. That's the quality and depth of this squad!
PSG aren't dominating Europe because they get to rest players. They're dominating because they've built an exceptional team with an exceptional coach and a clear footballing identity.
Give PSG their flowers. They've earned them through their performances, and constantly searching for excuses to diminish their achievements does a disservice to the quality of this team.
@EBL2017 Yeah how about spending 200m + every year , no club can spend that much money which liverpool is spending , same with arsenal ,it is not our problem that you buys bums like eze, tzolis, gyokeres n expect to win b'ldor ,sorry but in whole PL only haaland has that capability to win
"Football fans" will see a creative piece of skill and focus on the "luck" part instead of the fact that 99% of players don't even attempt stuff like this anymore.
No wonder football is getting more and more boring each year.
@SelecaoTalk Sportswashing when Arab owners inject money into a club, elevate its status, and make it more competitive. But when American owners take money out of a club, leave it drowning in debt, and put it in a worse position than they found it, they’re still praised as great owners.
Mbappe can reasonably be seen as a new CR7.
Lamine can reasonably be seen as a new Neymar.
We won’t have another Messi.
Dribbles like Neymar, scores like Ronaldo Nazario, creates chances like Cruyff, provides assists like KdB.
One of a kind. 🥹
I’m lucky to have seen it all.
