There's no greater football myth than “Messi is a one-way dribbler.” He chose to be.
I've seen Messi out-juggle Neymar, the guy we all consider more skillful and aesthetic. I've seen him manipulate the ball at a level I've rarely seen from anyone. Hell, I've even seen him do it while sitting down. 😭
So clearly, Messi could do all those things we call “skills.” Stepovers, tricks, flicks, all of it. He just rarely used them during actual matches.
Why?
Because Messi is probably the most efficient footballer we've ever seen.
Why spend a whole minute doing stepovers to beat a defender when you can just nutmeg him, burst past him in five seconds and finish the move with a goal?
Messi understood football on a level nobody else did. He didn't play football like he was trying to show you what he could do.
He played it like he was born to do it.
Because he actually was.

🚨🐐 AS Monaco manager Filipe Luis after beating PSG: “For me, Luis Enrique is not just the best manager in the world. He’s one of the best EVER”.
“I can only learn a lot from him”.
Alexander Isak played six seasons across three leagues, including two of the highest-scoring leagues in Europe - the Eredivisie and Bundesliga - and managed 46 goals.
Then he got to the “they won't give you space” league. 😭😂
54 goals in just three seasons.
Do I really need to say more? 😂
Good morning, amazing people of FT. ☀️
I can tell you for a fact that 90% of Premier League fans either don't watch enough football outside their own team/league, or they're genuinely insincere with their takes. 😭
Among Europe's top five leagues, the Bundesliga is the highest-scoring, followed by the Premier League.
I was watching Chelsea vs Brighton the other day and told my friends: these teams don't even respect bigger opponents in the EPL. They go band for band attacking-wise. 😂
You simply don't see that same mentality in LaLiga. The most demonic low blocks in Europe are in Spain. Hell, we literally have a team that can have 70% possession against a third-division side while playing in Europe. 😭
So where exactly does this theory that “they won't give you space in the Premier League” come from?
Because whenever I watch, someone is giving someone space. 😂
Premier League fans genuinely live in a fantasy world of their own. 😭

Looking at this Brilliant Osimhen’s goal, one thing I notice whenever I watch La Liga, Turkish league or even Ligue 1 is how much space players have to showcase their talent. The EPL is different. Everything is so congested, you barely have time before 2 defenders surround you.
🚨 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪: Damir Desnica, a DEAF Croatian retired footballer, was once sent off against Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup in 1984 for strange reasons:
• 1st yellow: He kept playing despite the referee's whistle (he couldn't hear).
• 2nd yellow: He allegedly insulted the referee despite literally not being able to speak.
