Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic, and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth. #ApostolicJourney#Cameroon https://t.co/bKteFZ3iWE
The US Conference of Catholic Bishops has released a response to JD Vance's comments about Pope Leo XIV:
'For over a thousand years, the Catholic Church has taught just war theory and it is that long tradition the Holy Father carefully references in his comments on war. A constant tenet of that thousand-year tradition is a nation can only legitimately take up the sword โin self-defense, once all peace efforts have failedโ
That is, to be a just war it must be a defense against another who actively wages war, which is what the Holy Father actually said: โHe does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war.
When Pope Leo XIV speaks as supreme pastor of the universal Church, he is not merely offering opinions on theology, he is preaching the Gospel and exercising his ministry as the Vicar of Christ. The consistent teaching of the Church is insistent that all people of good will must pray and work toward lasting peace while avoiding the evils and injustices that accompany all wars'
๐จโ๐ฟ Vinicius: โI hope Lamine can continue this fight against racism as well. We have money, but poor black people have more difficulties than we doโ.
โIโm not saying that Spain, Germany, or Portugal are racist countries, but there are racists in every country, and if we fight together, hopefully other players and people will stop suffering these thingsโ.
๐จ๐ฒ | Lamine Yamal Via IG: โI am a Muslim, Alhamdulillah.
Yesterday at the stadium, a chant was heard: โWhoever doesnโt jump is a Muslim.โ I know it was aimed at the opposing team and wasnโt something personal against me, but as a Muslim, this still counts as disrespectful and unacceptable behavior.
I understand that not all the fans are like that, but to those who chant phrases like this: using religion for mockery in the stadium makes you ignorant and racist people.
Football was created for enjoyment and cheering, not for insulting people because of who they are or what they believe in.
And after that, thanks to the fans who came to support us, see you at the World Cup ๐คโ
After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC.
May God bless America.
๐จ๐ฃ๏ธ Pep Guardiola on Sir Jim Ratcliffe's words on immigrants:
"I have a huge appreciation for Sir Jim. I was fortunate to meet him. I think he made an apology."
"But it's all around the world the problems we have, immigrants or people coming from another country. They are problems our countries have, and it's a big, big, big, big, big problem."
"The fact I am Catalan and you're British, what influence we had where we were born? It was mum and dad, right?"
"And we are born there, and I think everybody wants to have a better life, every people wants to have a perspective to have a better future for themselves, their families, friends or whatever."
"Sometimes opportunities come from the place you are born, and the place that maybe you go. And today, before it was so difficult to travel, in one hour you can be everywhere."
"The moment we start on colour of skin, or place where you're born, it doesn't make a difference. We have a lot, a lot of work to do. The fact I'm Catalan, I'm better than you? No."
"My education where I was born, travelling in Mexico, living in Qatar, Italy, England, Germany, that's just benefiting my personality. I grew up, met incredibly nice people, travelling and that's what it's about."
"But it doesn't make me feel better just for the fact I was born in one place different to another. And most of the people run away from their countries for the problems they have in their countries, not because we want to leave."
