Queens 2nd Alarm Box 1171 โ Queens fire companies were busy Friday night with a 2nd alarm at 29036 Ocean Crest Blvd in Far Rockaway. Shortly after 7 PM companies were dispatched for a fire in an occupied private dwelling. First due companies quickly transmitted the all-hands followed by a 2nd alarm. Medals were presented to FDNY Firefighters, Paramedics, EMTs, Fire Marshals, Dispatchers, Fire Protection Inspectors, and Officers for their lifesaving work in 2025. Notable medal recipients included Lieutenant Patrick T. Donlon, who received the Chief of Department Peter J. Ganci Jr. Medal and NYS Honorary Fire Chiefs Association Medal for his successful removal of a victim during a fully involved apartment fire in the Bronx as well as Paramedic Naytasha M. Doyle and Probationary Firefighter Paul T. Saladis, III (for incident while Paramedic) who received the Christopher J. Prescott Medal for their heroic actions at a Brooklyn fire in 2025. Today, May 30, at 10:30 a.m., a commemoration ceremony was held in observance of the 24th anniversary of the formal end of rescue, recovery, and relief efforts at Ground Zero on May 30, 2002. This annual observance honored the courage of 9/11 rescue, recovery, and relief workers who spent nine months working the pile at Ground Zero following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore, First Deputy Commissioner Daniel Flynn and Chief of Department John Esposito, presided over a promotion ceremony for 169 members at St Johnโs University. One Deputy Chief was promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief, four Battalion Chiefs were promoted to Deputy Chief, five Captains were promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief, 31 Lieutenants were promoted to the rank of Captain as well as 99 Firefighters promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Also promoted were 25 Firefighters who will be promoted to the rank of Fire Marshal, three Firefighters will be promoted to the rank of Marine Wiper, and one Firefighter will be promoted to the rank of Marine Pilot. FDNY News: 3-3:812 - A third alarm was needed for a fire in a row of occupied multiple dwellings with the fire originating at 247 Weirfield Street in the Bushwick section of the borough. Deputy Assistant Chief Tim Keenan credited first arriving companies Squad 252 and Ladder 112 with helping prevent the fire from spreading down the block. Brooklyn Box 4-4-278: a Third Alarm in a occupied multiple dwelling with extension to the exposures. New York City Firefighters were kept busy into the night with transmission of Box 278 for a fire in a multiple dwelling at 972 Grand Street in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Sunday was a busy day for New Yorkโs Bravest with several multiple alarm fires .Queens Box 7738 was transmitted shortly after 1500 for a multiple. First due arriving units quickly transmitted a second and when several FDNY members fell through a floor a 10-66 and eventually a 4th Alarm. The inured members were removed to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Fire Commissioner Bonsignore, Chief of Department Esposito and Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods were on scene.
