Yes, we knew this was going to happen.
Too many didnt take the threat seriously enough…soon enough.
Now, we focus on the consumers that do not understand what is happening.
Maybe the industry could come together over this one…might mean some will have to get the chip off their shoulder
Around 500 pounds of beef this morning heading to three different airports. I will swear by air cargo shipping, especially when you have as great as crew as the Denver @SouthwestAir office! And even remembered to leave beef sticks!
I rarely see posts about the ‘bottom end.’
We always seem to tout the 1%’ers-the highest selling, the best performance, the outlier.
It takes alot to raise good cattle…
Someone asks what my goals are for our cowherd-uniformity is always #1. I’m getting better at my decision making, but there is always room for improvement.
I’m proud of this group of steers-this is the bottom end, no dinks, no misfits (though there is one lovely set of horns thats in this group) that were held back-this is it. They’ve been on a 2lb growing ration and are headed to Sheridan Livestock Wednesday.
I know they’ll feed. I know they’ll grade.
But for a bottom end-they’ll even look good doing it:)
33 head May/June averaging around 650-700
Our H2A’s headed to MN yesterday to the Professional Outdoor Media Association Summit with these beauties, cant think of two employees that have deserved a trip away more!
I get irritated when calving seems to drag on…then i just have to check myself and go back to data. Yes, we are 26 days in and 90% done with heifers-all natural service. Just need to cool the jets
In other news- as much contention as there seems to be sometimes in the cattle industry I think this is something that we can all get behind to fight against.
The Van Drew–Titus amendment sponsored by Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) and Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV).
The amendment was added to the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s 2026 surface transportation bill (“BUILD America 250 Act”). It would:
prohibit the transportation of horses for slaughter for human consumption,
including transport within the U.S. and exports to Canada or Mexico for slaughter.
It passed the committee in a 34-30 vote.
Please contact your representative and let them know that this is not in the best interest or welfare of not only thousands of horses, but the agriculture industry.
