More than 2,400 people signed up or joined the waitlist for Hasan Piker’s September 30 appearance at UT Austin. UT officials later counted 301 people inside the 466 seat auditorium.

University Democrats, who hosted the event, said they had tried to secure a larger venue and were forced to return tickets.

From the stage, Piker turned to Texas politics.

Speaking about James Talarico, he said supporters should make sure he does not become another “do nothing Democrat,” keep up the pressure after the election, and added:

“if he wants to maintain it, he’s got to play ball.”

Fox News Digital characterized the remarks as pressure on Talarico to govern as a leftist rather than a moderate. The outlet reported that Talarico’s campaign had not immediately responded to its request for comment.

Operation Reconstruction, Part One explores that question through the voices and experiences of Black Republicans and conservatives reflecting on history, identity, faith, family, citizenship, and the freedom to define their own political lives.

From Reconstruction to the present, this conversation asks who gets to tell the story, whose voices are heard, and what happens when people refuse to let someone else write their identity for them.

For FDRSTC, this history is connected to the civic work happening right now. With the November 3, 2026 general election approaching, we are bringing the history, experiences, and perspectives of Black Republicans and conservatives into a broader conversation about citizenship, political participation, and the importance of being informed and engaged.

In Texas, early voting runs October 19 through October 30, with Election Day on November 3.

This is a story about history, but it is also a story about the people living that history today.
