Should we turn to moral arguments in the debate on admitting refugees? In my new paper @PoPpublicsphere, I argue that we should not. I put forward a political realist argument, instead. Read it open access here: https://t.co/aHlPrMoTig
Tommy Olsen, the founder of Aegean Boat Report, has been arrested by the Norwegian Police. He is now held in custody awaiting extradition to Greek authorities. With nearly 90,000 followers from across the world, it is time for all of those who have a voice to speak out now.
For the last six years, Greek authorities have tried to silence me. Years of smear campaigns in parts of the Greek press, spyware, arrests and harassment of people who stood by my side, isolating tactics, numerous baseless criminal investigations, an arrest warrant — and now a European Arrest Warrant — all with one purpose: to silence the voice of one man who
insists on telling the truth.
Every day Aegean Boat Report documents serious humanitarian abuses as they unfold along the route known as the Aegean Sea—from Turkey to Greece. Greek authorities want to silence me and have therefore fabricated a story where they accuse me of cooperating with people smugglers.
What I ask of you now is to speak out.
We cannot allow them to continue violating the principle of non-refoulement, fabricating smuggling charges, and then permit Norwegian citizens to be handed over to a police force that clearly does not want its human rights violations exposed. We must report human rights violations without fear of arrest.
If Aegean Boat Report disappears, it won’t be because the need disappeared. It will be because pressure and lack of support made it impossible to continue.
The work continues — but it cannot continue without you. I cannot continue without you.
Aegean Boat Report is now asking for your help.

Ukraine is in desperate need of manpower in its war with Russia, but does it have the right to conscript its citizens? What are the philosophical arguments for it and do they hold? I argue that there is no obligation to die for the state - read it here: https://t.co/3DMvH78kLz
What's the problem with small boats arriving in the UK? Loads of articles consider legal or political arguments, but few address the philosophical ones underpining this debate. Do any of them hold? Find out here: https://t.co/hffevBLkMy

@Evolutionistrue@FondOfBeetles I think the correct thing to say here is that >some< people in the humanities read out their talks. These are never the full papers (or else these papers would be very short). Not everyone does this though, and I would guess that it’s less than 50% (perhaps 20% or so)
Very excited for this conference on Refuge and Displacement at the University of Oxford later this month and only slightly intimidated on being the only other person in a panel with David Miller. If anyone feels like attending, here is a link:

@enzoreds That’s easy. All that matters is prestige & the fact that the uk is still incredibly classist. Not sure rankings matter that much considering this
