@AmaniUniverse How many people who condemned Mamdani for publishing the video of the Nakba survivor before Shabbat will condemn these protestors for doing this on Eid
@jj_notes@AbbyChavaStein She’s been there too and she had a great time and wasn’t attacked in spite of being trans, I hope you had a great time there too though
@becimay Then there's his "Love you will find only where you may show yourself weak without provoking strength" ❤️ For a grim guy he sure seemed to have an eye for the softness and vulnerability of love
Reports are emerging that Israeli soldiers are once again engaging in systematic looting and vandalism, this time in southern Lebanon.
Given their record over the course of nearly a century, it would be news if Israelis did not engage in systematic looting in vandalism.
Reporting about the Palestine War of the late 1940s and the Nakba understandably focuses on the role of the nascent Israeli state in robbing an entire country and dispossessing its entire population.
Yet individual Israelis, soldiers and civilians alike, also engaged in massive, prolonged looting at their own initiative. They committed these acts in broad daylight, their thieving is well-documented in both print and photography, and the Israeli state did nothing - absolutely nothing - to stop them. The new state effectively gave its entire population a license to steal whatever it wanted from the population it had dispossessed and displaced.
Similarly, in 1967 there was once again massive looting by Israelis, particularly by civilians and especially in East Jerusalem. Similarly well-documented.
Looting and robbery by Israelis typically reaches a crescendo during times of crisis. Thus it was a constant feature during the 1987-1993 uprising, and has of course been systematic during the Gaza Genocide.
Only the ignorant or uninitiated will be surprised to learn that Israelis are engaging in systematic looting in southern Lebanon.
It is nothing new. Israelis have not only stolen an entire country (and parts of several others), they have been robbing homes and individuals in the Middle East with total impunity since the 1940s.
@lorahmoe It depends on who's saying it: if it's a woman I know who's been treated terribly by men I empathize; if it's someone on social media making the statement to farm likes I feel irritated.
@redrummarts The left ceding this issue to the right reminds me of how free speech issues were and how the Israel issue is now being ceded to the right. If the left doesn't provide its own answers to these concerns it's just sabotaging itself.
@adamjohnsonCHI I think Trump’s psychological immaturity mirrors the immature stage of imperialism he’s drawn to. Both emphasize zero sum games, direct control of concrete resources (toys for kids, oil for Trump), physical force, crude rationalizations for behavior (“It’s mine b/c I want it”)
