and to elaborate on the use of the word in the novel - the author claimed to have heard the term while on a night out in new york city, but this has also been up for debate because another time the author claimed to have heard it when listening to a queer radio program

the term they’re using actually comes from a book in 1906 that described two lesbian women as “bulld*kers” which was THEN taken by the red light district in harlem (a predominantly black area). so this statement is technically right and the word was used then but didnt start then
