“Look, the tree has roots!”, she shouted. And that detail was so important to the child that she omitted to draw arms on her body, or some hair on her head. The future is in good hands (pun intended!) 😉🌳
This spring, try to shift your mindset!
Move from seeing the rain and mud as barriers to outdoor learning, and instead work towards finding creative solutions to get your learners outside in all weather!

Audrey Penn, what a gem you are! Thank you for sharing your books and the stories that inspired them. From now on, I will see your face and hear your sweet voice every time I pick up The Kissing Hand. ❤️
“We have to operate from a developmental mindset, not a behavioural mindset.” Not everything is about the outcome! Thanks for your presentation at the First School Transition Forum, Dr MacNamara.
I love to find ways to connect with and understand children, especially in the pictures I take to witness their growth. The two little hands tell me how much joy this Kindergartener found while exploring symmetry this morning.
Allison Homes this image is powerful for so many reasons. Connecting, nurturing and tuning into what each of our students need to help them grow #lceeq2022
Since physical activity supports the development of executive functions, then our Kindergarten classes should indeed be the noisy, busy, places described in Quebec’s new mandated Preschool Cycle Program. @kinestheticlass#lceeq2022
Harvesting potatoes at school. Using garden tools provides an opportunity to exercise the same muscles solicited when cutting and writing in the classroom. An authentic treasure hunt… that will end up putting food in our students’ bellies. #smallschoolbigdifference
This morning I was helping a sweet girl tie her shoelaces, and when she got up and turned around, I saw the message on the back of her shirt. #OrangeShirtDay must extend beyond our school walls… but I cannot think of a better place to start the conversation.
Which means we can never do school the way we did before those “nevers”. Social emotional learning first, everything else after. @WeAreTeachers#JoyfulLeaders
Afternoon free play in the rain for K4 and K5. Ample opportunity for developing executive functions, language, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills. #smallschoolbigdifference
So proud to work at a school where older students are engaged in all types of play at recess. Such a reward to notice how their vocabulary, their knowledge of concepts, and ideas have become increasingly complex since they left my classroom… but play remains.
@sjfeeney All children have the need and the right to play. 20% of school life if playtime. If schools addressed the quality of the 1.4 years of play in primary life then we could redress the idea than good play is 'dumped' at age five and a half.
