First - by publishing contributions to the study like it normally would.

Second - by acknowledging the study's flaws, and committing that it cannot be used to justify any changes in GMO safety laws.

.@EU_Health is also refusing to publish the responses to the study in advance, breaking with normal transparency protocols, and preventing public scrutiny of the process.

The questions in the study focus mainly on benefits of new GM crops - rather than their risks.

Both this and the dominance of responses from the agri-industry appear to ignore the EU Commission's own guidelines to make sure these sorts of studies are balanced and fair.

But who got to feed into the study?

The agri-industry - and the biotech industry in particular. These organisations have a vested interest in weakening GMO safety laws, and were allowed the give the lion's share of input into the study.

Next month, the EU Commission's food safety body (@EU_Health) will publish a study which will have a key role in deciding whether or not a new wave of GMOs will have to undergo safety checks before they're allowed on the market - and be labelled as GMOs in shops.
