@royllovians I'll bet you $5 that guy also insists he's a "descriptivist about language" but has very very fixed opinions on the proper use of, e.g., pronouns

(Incidentally it's the first bit that I take issue with, the second is fine)

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@godspeed_aflame Chesterton's comments are worth reading in full. As is the book they appear in, "Orthodoxy" (the best apologia I've read)

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@justalexoki No, a lot of them becaming arselicking worshippers of whatever power they could find like you. Unfortunately they reproduced. Please solve the result whenever you can

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@VekilElDaule @JohnIVSobieski Oh, quite dispiriting? How frightful. Summon the gendarmes, you marvellous gentleman

I.e. and e.g., talk normal

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

"Actually we worked really hard to scam all those people" that's worse. We'd respect you more if you enjoyed it. Why are the biggest criminals so fucking boring

So many people have DM’d me about this trailer and I’ll be honest, watching it made me physically throw up.

I was COO from before FTX even had a name, it was my baby, and I was the last one out of the Bahamas after Sam got extradited. I lost everything I had on it and it took me a long time to get over, so I have zero interest in defending the people who caused this.

The media loves the story that FTX blew up because we were all partying in the Bahamas, but the place I worked looked nothing like that.

We had under 200 people in the core company at its peak, not counting subsidiaries, when other exchanges our size had thousands, so a lot of us were doing 16 to 18 hour days for over three years and barely had time to sleep, and whenever we walked in, day or night, Sam was at his desk.

I worked with Caroline and never once saw her get aggressive like she does in this trailer. She’s quiet and mild, and often lost in her own thoughts.

Most of us didn’t even know she and Sam were dating until we read about it after the bankruptcy, and I never saw him so much as put an arm around anyone.

FTX’s collapse ruined so many people’s lives, including ours, and Netflix decided to make it a love story.

Shame on you @netflix.

@AlphaB1tch The chuds are saying "see no wonder we don't read this rubbish".

And while chuds are often functionally illiterate, they also have a point here. People like Kipling really were trying to connect with the general public in a way modern poets turn their nose up at.

@SandyofCthulhu Musk is not a polymath lmao, at best he's good at running a business (much more doubtful than people pretend), at worst he's just a con artist

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@charles_r_sears @gadboit2 Those institutions very much haven't agreed leading theories

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@gmkurtzer You're doing the equivalent of someone responding to "maybe nuclear weapons are bad?" with "so you hate power plants? You hate submarines?" Taking anything vaguely similar or related and pretending they're the same

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@gmkurtzer Alphafold isn't generative ai, existed before the current buildout. Everything computer vision related is CNNs and related models. Discovering materials isn't difficult; doing it entirely randomly only results in slop. Feel free to show a discovered material with a verified use.

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@CatRedFront If you read the rock paper shotgun interview with him he's pretty sympathetic to cops. Which makes him smarter than anyone doing the "ACAB!!!!" anarkiddy stuff

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@tenobrus My man people wouldn't pay 50c to have minecraft shoddily imposed over elden ring. Game design takes thought and precision, nobody wants your slop

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@piperocktheory @probablyabot83 Do we have a Charlie Rose any more? Awful person, obviously, but an exceptional interviewer. Everything now is gimmicks and soundbites

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@MildCuthbert I can't help but feel he delights too much in his own cleverness, trading posterity for play. Critics love saying how you can map Dublin by Ulysses, and I think it'll have the same lasting power

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@iainmartin1 Decades of deregulation have neutered the british public to the extent they can only imagine government collecting and spending money. People say they want fairer taxes; they mean they want a fairer economy. The biggest step in that direction is competition law, then min wage

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@alexkehr "And what's our USP, you ask? Well, we're the only site where people can use a technology that is notoriously unreliable for everything except scams and customer complaints"

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

@ClwnPrncCharlie Yeah, my overwhelming impression from her odyssey was that I can't judge how accurate it was (no greek) but she has a tin ear for poetry

[Franklin Alderson @FGAlderson]

If Ted Kaczynski had started last year he would be universally beloved
