FIGO has a vision that women of the world achieve the highest possible standards of health and wellbeing throughout their lives #SDGs#SRHR#HealthForAll
Five years ago in Mali, abortion was not even mentioned in hospitals, government ministries, or among OBGYNs.
After the FIGO Advocating for Safe Abortion (ASA) project began in Mali, Dr Youssouf Traoré, then president of the Malian Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics and national coordinator, saw changes. Now, as secretary general of the African Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SAGO), he observes progress across twenty African countries with different laws and realities.
The ASA project and its communities of practice have contributed to breaking the silence and restoring dignity, in addition to new laws and training.

Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) affects up to half of menstruating girls and women – yet 50–80% never seek medical care, turning instead to the Internet for answers.
A new systematic assessment in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics (IJGO), by the FIGO Committee on Menstrual Disorders and Related Health Impacts, found that online patient education materials on HMB often suffer from poor readability, a lack of visual aids and critical content gaps or inaccuracies.
These gaps risk delaying care and spreading misinformation. The committee calls for better knowledge translation – accurate, accessible, patient-friendly content on HMB.
