Welcome to the Latin America and Caribbean Fly-in for their first day! These students from @fiu_sipa and @fiulacc. ✈️

The day started at the FIU in DC office with a little taste of home with some fresh cafecito. After, they explored the American Dream Experience, interacting with exhibits and making connections between personal goals and the ‘American dream’. They also had the opportunity to participate in Adrienne Arsht Latin America team at the @atlanticcouncil to discuss internship and programming opportunities and to share how sports can drive economy and stronger international ties, a timely conversation with the FIFA World Cup with ambassadors from the UK, Ghana, Panama & Croatia.

Researchers at @fiu_cec are developing cutting-edge tools to detect and address bridge deterioration, including corrosion-detection dogs, advanced imaging technology capable of assessing steel cables, and sprayable Ultra-High Performance Concrete designed to strengthen aging infrastructure.

Supported through @usdot funded research initiatives, these technologies could help engineers identify problems earlier, extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure, and improve public safety nationwide. From breakthrough research to real-world solutions, FIU continues advancing innovations that help build stronger and more resilient communities.

Happening Now: @SenateCommerce is examining the blue economy and opportunities to strengthen American fisheries, maritime capabilities, and coastal economies.

@FIU is proud to contribute research and expertise that support sustainable fisheries, maritime innovation, resilient coastal communities, and the stewardship of marine resources. These discussions also include challenges like illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, which threatens marine ecosystems, economic competitiveness, and maritime security.

Through @GordonInstitute, FIU developed the Security Research Hub Caribbean IUU Fishing Dashboard, an open-source tool that helps monitor suspicious fishing activity across the region.
